Intravenous Lyrics
I feel like ice
is broken underground
say it twice
and eventually turn around
Always it's the same
you never understand me
understand me
It's too confused
and this is never found
I'm just like you
inject me when I'm down
Always it's the same
you never understand me
always it's the same
your intravenous vein is easy
is easy...
Always it's the same
you never understand me
always it's the same
your intravenous vein is easy
it's easy
is broken underground
say it twice
and eventually turn around
you never understand me
understand me
and this is never found
I'm just like you
inject me when I'm down
you never understand me
always it's the same
your intravenous vein is easy
is easy...
you never understand me
always it's the same
your intravenous vein is easy
it's easy

i can't believe that these lyrics weren't already up!! this was the 1st song i ever heard by catherine wheel from the movie "nowhere" and it got me into all of their other stuff. it's definitely my favorite song by them and one of my favorite songs ever.
the lyrics can obviously be interpreted as someone whose friend is on drugs. and turning to drugs is "easy", easier than dealing with confusion and not being understood
@allviolet I agree that's a valid interpretation (and thanks for posting these lyrics).

However, it's interesting that the song never mentions drugs. The word "intravenous" tends to suggest drug use, but a blood transfusion is also administered intravenously, and I think that's the metaphor the singer is going for here.

My interpretation is that he's expressing to his lover how there seems to be a lack of communication between them, and as a result he feels the foundation of their relationship is starting to feel less secure (first two stanzas). Meaningful dialogue and communication between them is the "this" when he sings that "this is never found", and he's expressing frustration that his partner doesn't seem to be there to lift him up with love and encouragement the way he feels that he's been there for the partner ("I'm just like you", so do for me the same things I do for you.) Repeating that "your intravenous vein is easy" suggests that the singer is acknowledging that his partner is easier to please, and by the end of the song it starts to feel like a criticism of the partner (suggesting the partner is shallow and/or doesn't want as much out of life and love), leaving the singer to feel as lonely and dejected as he did at the beginning of the song.
Of course, I could be wrong.
