I Go To Sleep Lyrics

When I look up from my pillow I dream you are there with me
Though you are far away I know you'll always be near to me
I go to sleep, sleep, and imagine that you're there with me
I go to sleep, sleep, and imagine that you're there with me

I look around me and feel you are ever so close to me
Each tear that flows from my eyes brings back memories of you to me
I go to sleep, sleep, and imagine that you're there with me
I go to sleep, sleep, and imagine that you're there with me

I was wrong, I will cry, I will love you to the day I die
You alone, you alone and no one else, you were meant for me

When morning comes once more I have the loneliness you left me
Each day drags by until finally night time descends on me
I go to sleep, sleep, and imagine that you're there with me
I go to sleep, sleep, and imagine that you're there with me

How am I the first comment on this beautiful song. It's on of my favorites from the Kinks after Waterloo Sunset. This song makes me feel in a dream.

A really beautiful love song by The Kinks. The piano really ties this song together so lovely.

Not sure if the lover has died (Though you are far away) or if they have simply left them (perhaps the love wasn't reciprocated)?

Could be a beautiful song even for a couple when they are apart from each other temporarily.

I love this song. It’s not actually sung by the Kinks, since it’s only a demo. As Sokorny says it’s unclear if the lover has passed or if they are simply separated. I like to think it’s about someone who’s left Earth. It describes the longing and the hopeless (yet patient) sadness that come with grief. It’s a love song, but I don’t know if it’s necessarily about romantic love. I think it’s simply about a very deep fondness of someone and the expression of love that is grief.
