it seems to be a collection of semi-random memories. not sure if there is a clear meaning to the lyrics, but the song evokes a unique type of feeling. I guess I would call it regretful-nostalgia.

I think the first stanza is probably a clue what the song is about: the loss of someone the narrator loves. It's pretty obvious she's left him, hence the line 'no one looked me in the eye'. He is either convinced that the fact she left is a good thing, or he is trying to convince himself of that. But he is longing for her. He can't help but feel the pain.

Great song!The reference to "one day the stone will roll away" seems to express the hope that somehow her death isn't final and he'll get to see her again on another level of existence.

While I do agree with the above "longing for her"/heartache interpretation (that's why it works so well as a Thom Yorke song, I see this theme all over The Eraser), there's more to the song.
There are also undercurrents of sort of struggling as you hit your 30s, and maybe a pull between doing what you should, and what you dream. (His brother is cutting grass, but he's unsure if that's the life he wants. What exactly is 'all for the best'?)
