I think this is about someone/something thas has the power to make people believe in them, regardless if it's true or not. I thought this could be a reference to the media, but "masterpiece, work of art" don't go well with that theory.
My oppinion is thet this song is about individuality, the quality inside everyone, but at the same time of the potential lying in joining forces and doing something big.
