If My Heart Was a House

"You're the sky that I fell through, and I remember the view whenever I'm holding you. " I think he's talking about when he was falling for her, he fell so fast as if he were falling through a sky. And there were things (like clouds) that could have appeared to have been there to stop him, but they couldn't because it would be impossible. And even though he fell so fast, sometimes he forgets how much he really loves her, but remembers when she's in his arms.

"The sun hung from a string looking down on the world as it warms over everything." I have no idea, but maybe he's comparing this to God or fate watching them to make everything good between them (warm)?

"Chills run down my spine as our fingers entwine, And your sighs harmonize with mine. Unmistakably, I can still feel your heart beat fast when you dance with me." Even though they're in love, and it seems like a serious relationship- he still has that little kid crush on her that started everything out, and it keeps their love alive. They have the same thoughts, and he enjoys being similar to her.

"We got older and I should’ve known (Do you feel alive?) That I’d feel colder when I walk alone (Oh but you’ll survive)" They're growing apart as they're getting older/ growing old of each other. and they're losing the spark that made them feel so alive in their relationship. He's saying he should have known from the beginning that this would happen, they couldn't be perfect together forever. They still want to stay together, and are convincing themselves that they'll survive the boredom/ relationship problems.

"So I may as well ditch my dismay. Bombs away, bombs away" Since he knows that they'll survive the issues in their relationship, he's telling himself he should just forget about the problems and pretend they never happened, and try to go back to normal. "Bombs away," Meaning something like 'alright, I can survive this, lets try again.'

"Circle me and the needle moves gracefully back and forth, If my heart was a compass, you’d be North" I don't quite understand the "circle me" part, but the needle moving back and forth- referring to a sewing machine, saying that it's the same moment and they'll always come back to each other and they'll always be in love. The compass phrase is one of the cutest things I've ever heard, he's saying that compass' always point North, so no matter what his heart will always lead him back to her.

"Risk it all 'cause I'll catch you if you fall." They can risk everything for each other, and trust each other more than anyone because they both know that if something bad happened to the other they'd be there to catch them if anything is wrong.

"Wherever you go, if my heart was a house, you'd be home" He's saying that a house can just be a house, a house can't just be a home- it has to become one. A home could be many different places. A camp, a friends house. In this case, she's his home. His shelter, his everything- and it doesn't matter where they are. Separate or together, no matter how far away.

"It makes me smile because you said it best, I would clearly feel blessed if the sun rose up from the West" He's happy because she knows & can describe perfectly how they feel for each other and about everything- I'm guessing that some of the lines in this song are quotes of things she said.

"Flower balm perfume, all my clothes smell like you, ‘cause your favorite shade is navy blue" The type of perfume she wears rubs off on his clothes (mostly navy blue because that's her favorite shade on him,)

"I walk slowly when I’m on my own (Do you feel alive) Yeah, but frankly I still feel alone (Oh but you’ll survive)" He's sad and lifeless when he's without her, but just thinking about her makes him feel alive- but still alone.

I think it's about this young couple, maybe struggling a little to keep up with eachother. But no matter what, the guy will always be totally in love with the girl. She will always be his first, she will always hold the largest spot in his heart. Even if the girl leaves, and he tries to move on...like, nobody will ever be able to replace her.

I can't even explain how much I love this song. It is so beautiful.

i think its more of a relationship that started at one point in their life and one person had to go somewhere far away (like long distance relationship sort of thing)

and when he says "It makes me smile because you said it best I would clearly feel blessed if the sun rose up from the West" to me it's saying person one tells person two that person two wants what he can't have and if would be happiest if he could have it. for example he would have it that she would come back.

and whether they broke up or grew apart he knows that his heart is where she belongs.

This whole line is about a compass, he's talking about how it works. The "needle" is the needle of the compass which always points North. "Circle me and the needle moves gracefully back and forth" he's suggesting that he is stationary and she is the one moving, but everywhere she goes "the needle" (his heart) follows her gracefully.

"If my heart was a compass, you’d be North" is the best line in the whole song (in my opinion) just because it instantly gives you such a good mental image of just how much she means to him.

I think this song is about how much a boy loves a girl. like, when he's like, 'If my heart was a compass, you'd be North Risk it all 'cause I'll catch you if you fall Wherever you go, if my heart was a house, you'd be home'

with the compass part and saying she'd be north, I think it means,that she'll always be first, because North is basically the most important part of a compass, and the wherever you go part, is saying that no matter what, she belongs in his heart, no matter what happens. a verrrrrry meaningful song(: it reminds me alot of teenage love.

story: a guy meets a girl and instantly falls in love. they go out for a year and are totally in love. he wants to stay put but the chic wants to move to new york. she wants to get away and do something important. But the guy keeps loving her. even when they break up and she leaves. and even when she doesnt reply to messages. She is always in his heart and that is where she will stay...

I think that the line "Wherever you go, if my heart was a house, you'd be home" means that she's always in his heart, so if his heart were a house, she would be home at all times no matter where she went. The boy in this song is willing to do anything to make his love for a girl last, and keep her loving him. Someone with this kind of determination rarely fails in the end~ And I think you can always keep love alive, if it's true and both people are willing to try.

This song is so adorable ^.^ I love it to pieces. It's so filled with joy, although some of the lyrics are sad. This song, to me, is an amazing story about how love can transcend any obstacles and overcome distance and time.
