Model Homes Lyrics
I need to be alone
I need to be alone
I don't need to be with someone
I don't need to join the swarm
Everywhere you look out
Like two birds who lose their home
They're blocking all the streetcars
They're holding up our phones
And if it leaves a bad taste
You need to wash it down
And if you build a model home
Just burn it to the ground
I refuse to show my good side
In no place to call my own
It's no home, no, no, no, no
So can you spell disaster
Can you feel it in your bones
I don't feel like I'm a lover
And I don't recognize her foe
It's her own investigation
It's a trial put on for cats
I'm not the one to feel so selfish
There's no way this one will last
And if it leaves a bad taste
You need to wash it down
And if you build a model home
Just burn it to the ground
I refuse to show my good side
In no place to call my own
It's no home, no, no, no, no
Whoa oh, oh, oh (x8)
If it leaves a bad taste
You need to wash it down
If you build a model home
Just burn it to the ground
I refuse to show my good side
In no place to call my own
It's no home, no, no, no, no
No home, no home, no, no, no, no (x2)
No home. (x4)

This song brings me to tears everytime I listen to it. Im going through a really rough break up right now, and it brings comfort but an emptiness at the same time. I still love it though.
I have no idea what this song is about - but it means a lot to me. It is sad but also it gives me power. I am going through a hard time right now (heavy medical treatment for 1 yr) and this song is "my song" for this time. It helps me to stay optimistic but also allows me to live the blues I feel.
This song is beautiful. Did you discover it through the TV show "Chuck?"

I saw an interview with the band on YouTube, and they made it seem that the song was just about how everything is so superficial in the modern world, and that people have totally lost their ability to communicate, face-to-face. He uses model homes as a metaphor for our degrading social culture. Hence why he tells us to "burn them to the ground."

I totally understand how it's empowering, and I hope that you persevere and conquer your sickness.

i think it means that you have to brush off bad things that happen, and anything great in life that makes us arrogant and conceited, we need to get rid of that. and You're going through life, you don't know what you're fighting but you want to know, so you fight anyways and don't let your walls down so you make it, and even though you do all this, you still need someone and have someone to catch you if fall.
The songs about managing a break up and getting to the point to move on. He needs to be alone to heal, anyone can relate to this song. It's simple, yet beautifully composed. I love the lines:
"And if it leaves a bad taste You need to wash it down And if you build a model home Just burn it to the ground"
Find something to get over the bad memories. Get rid of the "model home," erase the idea of perfection, and start from scratch.
