Cigarettes Lyrics
Jesus never smoked cigarettes
God never shot a gun
Mary Mother never left her love
For the the cold California sun
I, I remember
Fow we, we danced out loud
And safe and solemn harbors
Away from windswept towns
And white cloth crowds
To dance out loud
Suture science to your forehead
I will take the blame
Miracles for lovers' sake
Are miracle the same
I, I remember
How we, we danced out loud
And safe and solemn harbors
Away from windswept towns
And white cloth crowds
To dance out loud
We'll ride our serpentine
We'll make a mighty wake
We'll burn our gasoline
We'll sing for sacred days
We'll ride our serpentine
We'll make a mighty wave
We'll burn our gasoline
We will sing for sacred days
I, I remember
How we danced out loud
And safe and solemn harbors
Away from windswept towns
And white cloth crowds
To dance out loud
God never shot a gun
Mary Mother never left her love
For the the cold California sun
Fow we, we danced out loud
And safe and solemn harbors
Away from windswept towns
And white cloth crowds
To dance out loud
I will take the blame
Miracles for lovers' sake
Are miracle the same
How we, we danced out loud
And safe and solemn harbors
Away from windswept towns
And white cloth crowds
To dance out loud
We'll make a mighty wake
We'll burn our gasoline
We'll sing for sacred days
We'll ride our serpentine
We'll make a mighty wave
We'll burn our gasoline
We will sing for sacred days
How we danced out loud
And safe and solemn harbors
Away from windswept towns
And white cloth crowds
To dance out loud

"I remember how we danced out loud" Beautiful. I feel like this song is about someone who was in love; who IS in love. And the problem isn't that the person that they're in love with didn't return their feelings, but more likely they're in denial. This person is afraid to show love in return, for whatever reason. Maybe they've been hurt before, maybe they had parents who split up and now they're terrified of that happening to them, or maybe they're simply cynical and don't believe in love- even when it's staring them straight in the face. The one who does acknowledge what they have knows that they can't force anything though, and so the song is kind of like a quiet persuasion for this other person to just let go of what they know and fall into what they feel.

Yea, it's "crowds" not "clouds", even though it's listed as "clouds" everywhere else. Just listen to how he sings "cloth" and you can tell it's an "R" in "crowds"...
