This song is about a man who can't decide whether to run away from the troubles of his past and start anew, or turn around to face them. He's begun to try to escape his past, but realizes that his "troubles are sure to follow". In the end he decides to stop running, "turn it all around", and stand up to the troubles of his past.

Blakeemail is right - If you go to the Daughtry website there is a video where Chris explains that its about a guy trying to run away from his problems, so he gets in his car and goes, but then he pulls over on the shoulder of a road and wonders whether thats actually a good idea, then when he reaches the tennessee line he realises that his problems are just going to follow him and that he needs to confront them - so he turns back around.

I think it's about somebody who hates who they've become, and move away to start over and become a new person But I could be wrong.

First you need to know that Chris Daughtry used to be a salesperson or something like that. If you look on youtube at one of the idol auditions Chris' wife is pretty well in tears about how music is Chris' dream.

This could be about Daughtry's road to where he is today. " Looking the rear view " meaning where he is coming from. " Sworn off my past " Quit his job as a sales person to pursue his dream. " first to last call i've ever made " Tossing up whether it is the right decision or not " Tell me how to make right every wrong turn that I've learned " Learning from mistakes and looking for inspiration. " The Tennessee Line " is the road he has to walk to reach his dreams. " It's my heart i will follow this time " He is going for it, following his dreams, following his heart to feel complete in the end.

Love this song! Just a wonderful melody. And a wonderful song about forgiveness and love!

I have a (more than a) friend who lives in Tennessee, and this song to me represents the day that I finally cross the Tennessee line to go see her again.
