I think this song is about friendship that's "not able" to exist anymore.

You have a friendship with someone you trust and follow their heart. You talk together, share together, do everything together. But everyone changes eventually, everyone grows up and get different opinions on things. This way, the friendship weakens and you grow apart from each other.

Because of someone changing views before you, your feelings go numb. Wondering if this is all real to you. You can't do anything to change their mind but it's still stuck in your head: "The end begins just as it starts, And leaves me wondering what we left behind Told me not to talk but please explain My thoughts that float around my mind"

Your friend: "So take a step back will you Be alright, feel alright?" You obviously don't feel alright, you're scared of the reality that's brought upon you, which is the trigger.

You wished you could still be with them, you wish you would have everything as how it was so you TRY stay optimistic: "Up ahead I see it I can find it, but I feel alive Followed me inside of a place I felt like things would still be alright"

But eventually it goes to your head, so you're so bothered by it..It almost drives you insane even if you still try to fix it: "All this time when we walk we won't feel But sometime in a box it wont steal you

You grow stronger, try to reject it. Try to not cling to the past, but still..It's bugging you: Oh this time when I walk, I won't feel, I won't feel Oh this time when I talk it's not real, it's not real, not real, not real, it's not real..." Hence the many repeats of "it's not real" because you repeat it over and over, it's something that's just driving you insane but still try to forget.
