Good Times Lyrics
Well he told me didn't know me that well
If only he knew he was my lion and I was his gazelle
The circumstances drew the line
I was never his and he was never mine
Well it's a roller-coaster ride
It's a fortune teller's life
It's a dream that I had in black and white
Make a wish on a star tonight
I shoot him once
I shoot him twice
I couldn't help it the bullets flew out of my mouth
And he got angry and all I cared about was being right
Oh, I apologize
Cause it's a roller-coaster ride
It's a fortune teller's life
It's a dream that I had in black and white
Hush my darling sweet dreams tonight
People come and people go
I'll miss you, I want you to know
But, oh, how pride it gets in the way
Though we never speak in my heart you will remain
Cause all I want is to know for sure
That when I day I lived the best that I could
We're all falling down the rabbit hole
So hold my hand and never let it go
And the pages they are always turning
As we watch the towers burning
Well it's fast times, it's fucked-up times, it's beautiful times, and it's good, good times
Oh, good times
Good, good times
If only he knew he was my lion and I was his gazelle
The circumstances drew the line
I was never his and he was never mine
It's a fortune teller's life
It's a dream that I had in black and white
Make a wish on a star tonight
I shoot him twice
I couldn't help it the bullets flew out of my mouth
And he got angry and all I cared about was being right
Oh, I apologize
It's a fortune teller's life
It's a dream that I had in black and white
Hush my darling sweet dreams tonight
I'll miss you, I want you to know
But, oh, how pride it gets in the way
Though we never speak in my heart you will remain
That when I day I lived the best that I could
We're all falling down the rabbit hole
So hold my hand and never let it go
As we watch the towers burning
Well it's fast times, it's fucked-up times, it's beautiful times, and it's good, good times
Oh, good times
Good, good times

I love this song so much, it helps me come to terms with a lot of things I feel that I don't know how to put words to. Here's my heart on it, not to say it's right, I'm okay letting go of that ;) just hope it connects with a heart in need of these words like I was <3 _
In the first verse... "he didn't know me...the circumstances drew the line..." ⟿ I feel so clearly that passive, insecure relationship that's so idealistic & so hopeful it's doomed from the start because it's so in the air, away from grounded reality
"it's a roller-coaster ride... a dream in black & white... a wish on a star tonight" ⟿ so mindless, all feeling, which leaves so much air of confusion that all there is to do is hope & pray
"I shoot him once... twice... I couldn't help it... I cared about being right... I'm sorry" ⟿ wrapped up in the confusion, she's lost in her own heat & she hasn't learned to do anything but react in fear to it, even though she regrets these reactions deeply.
"people come & go... I'll miss you... pride gets in the way... you'll remain in my heart" ⟿ she knows she's not perfect, she figures that into her narrative of life, she hates her pride getting in they way because she feels so much love beneath it, nonetheless it's what's protected her for so long she can't let it go so simply.
"all I want to know for sure... I lived the best I could... we're all lost in the mix of life... so hold my hand & never let it go" ⟿ while she doesn't love what's happening, it's the best she can offer, and she hopes he still cares about her knowing that instead of attaching to what she's been showing him
"the pages always turning... we watch the burning... it's fast times, it's fucked times, it's beautiful times, it's good good times" ⟿ they tried so hard to stay positive together, to offer each other what their mind on love instead of their hearts on love, falling into the same pattern of the time they fight so hard against, which could break them, but both of them are so conditioned to the stories of the mind yet so unveiled to their hearts together, to the duality they struggle with keeping them from always being positive _
Ultimately, I take this song as irony named "Good Times," trying to show us that people get serious for a reason, whether or not we currently respect those reasons. That taking life with a grain of salt - unconsciously & living on a prayer - does its number on the heart, on love, and on life. Ignorance is only blissful until you realize the pain that ignorance causes to those you ignore.
I love this song so much <3
