Innocence Lyrics

See it from the outside
Running toward the wall
Seeing from your blinds eye
But you don't know me at all

I've been here
Too many times before
And your tears don't mean a thing
I only come when you scream
I told you

[Chorus]
Child don't follow me home
You're just to perfect for my hands to hold
If you choose to stay you'll throw it all away
And I just want to take your innocence

This is what you wanted
Did I make your dreams come true
Sitting in a corner
Wondering what you got into
You ache for this

You don't understand
That your tears don't mean a thing
And I only come when you scream
I told you

[Chorus]

There's no such thing as fate
Only yourself to blame
You never walked away
I told you

[Chorus: x2]

And I just want to take your innocence
I just want to take

I think that literally, the song is talking about a younger teenager who has fallen for someone older, who really doesnt want a relationship with them, but just wants to take their innocence.

I think on another level tho, it can also be about not feeling good enough for someone. Like someone is pure and innocent, but you feel that you are flawed and immoral. It can be about someone's past or something that they are ashamed of interferes with their next relationship. Parts like "your too perfect for my hands to hold" makes me think of this.
Im not sure if this is what the singer meant literally, but its kind of how I take it.

This song is amazing. Her voice is perfect for this song. I'm not sure what it means, though I do have an idea. & it sounds more like she says 'child' instead of 'just,' but my ears may be failing me again.

It may have been "just" when it was written, but it is DEFINITELY "Child" on the album.

It is about a relationship that should not have happened. About temptation if you will. Knowing that is "child", I take it mean a teenage girl/boy who has become infatuated with an older man/woman. Basically telling him/her that if you choose to pursue me, I am only going to be with you for one thing, your innocence (virginity possibly or just for sex)

It also could be reversed with a man/woman already in a serious relationship getting involved with someone single. "If you choose to stay, you'll throw it all away", meaning your are going to wreck your relationship to be with me.

Saw them just a few weeks ago in Orlando. Very good show.

I asked Lzzy about this on twitter during her #AskLzzyAnything query. This song is about drug and substance abuse among her teenage friends. It's sung from the perspective of the drug. Looking at the lyrics more closely, this makes a lot of sense. However, the song is versatile. Although that was the meaning for her, the song can take on any meaning for you personally. That is one of the great things about music and the connections it creates.

I do not remember where I saw or heard it....but I remember this song being in a discussion or interview that I watched/listened to.

If I remember correctly, It is about her "getting off" on the crowd that is "getting off" on her. I saw them recently in concert as well. They feed off the energy from the crowd...I believe this song represents a mutual energy feeling for both...Child represents the younger side of the crowd; they have fans of all ages in the concert but the majority of the crowd is on the younger side because Halestorm appeals to that group....

uhhhh... wrong song..... lol. thats on "I get off"
