Tomorrow Never Comes Lyrics
Heaven help us
We've lost control, this should be our finest hour
But we're racing towards the end of days
Pulling back from the brink despite our best efforts
The volume increases and the beat goes on
All the players marching to a different drum
The rhythm of the war dance, the beat goes on.
What will become of us if there's no one to watch over us?
If we should face the certainty of our destruction
Forbidding everything, pointless cries, futile dreams
There'll be no after, there'll be no tears
When tomorrow never comes
This isn't a game and the safety's off
Still wait one more and so the beat gets faster
Everyone must play because fame will find you
Put your face on the cover of a loaded magazine
We're proud of ourselves, our greatest inventions
Methods of killing have reached perfection
All the players marching to a different drum
The rhythm of the war dance and the beat goes on
What will become of us if there's no one to watch over us?
If we should face the certainty of our destruction
Forbidding everything, pointless cries, futile dreams
There'll be no after, there'll be no tears
When tomorrow never comes
As the warning siren sounds
That the world is at an end
Rendered unto night creations are asunder
What would become of us if there's no one to watch over us?
There'll be no after there'll be no tears
When tomorrow never comes
We've lost control, this should be our finest hour
But we're racing towards the end of days
Pulling back from the brink despite our best efforts
The volume increases and the beat goes on
All the players marching to a different drum
The rhythm of the war dance, the beat goes on.
If we should face the certainty of our destruction
Forbidding everything, pointless cries, futile dreams
There'll be no after, there'll be no tears
When tomorrow never comes
Still wait one more and so the beat gets faster
Everyone must play because fame will find you
Put your face on the cover of a loaded magazine
We're proud of ourselves, our greatest inventions
Methods of killing have reached perfection
All the players marching to a different drum
The rhythm of the war dance and the beat goes on
If we should face the certainty of our destruction
Forbidding everything, pointless cries, futile dreams
There'll be no after, there'll be no tears
When tomorrow never comes
That the world is at an end
Rendered unto night creations are asunder
What would become of us if there's no one to watch over us?
There'll be no after there'll be no tears
When tomorrow never comes

I'm surprised no one has commented yet on this song. Musically and lyrically, I feel it is in the top dozen or so of VNV's best songs, and definitely a centerpiece of OFPAG. Ronan's lyrics do cover familiar territory, warning of the hopelessness of humankind's future if the massive destruction wrought by modern warfare, greedy governments, the cult of the (brainwashed and consumerist) individual over concern for the good of all. But he says it so eloquently and it's such an urgent message for him to all of us just in case there's time to salvage our planet and our civilization.
A couple of minor corrections: "forfeiting everything," "there'll be no laughter," "still we want more"
I just saw them play this (4/4/2010 @ Meridian Houston, TX) ... And the show they put on for us made me fucking cry. <3
This sounds to me like a song thats played during the downfall of Humanity. It like asking "What will happen when we're not ourselves anymore?" Like who's watching us and is the human race coming to an end and what will happen then? This might sound like idle ramblings of a sleep-deprived, caffeinated mind but this song makes me want to cry. It makes me imagine the downfall of the human race in a ball of glorious fire and engulfing flames.
