Son Lyrics

We lay aligned
And move to disguise
With a soul below
Only the eyes above
Slowly and silently
Slip away

Sleep now in the soil
The dust in the debris
A stolen smoke assumes
Leaving the shell to atrophy
Meet with the earth
As the sober spirit sings

Leave, leave it behind
This truth is harming you
Leave, leave it behind
Set out and start anew
Your life hereafter
Will cure all your troubles
And recast a history

Turn and walk away

And what of the father
Will he analyze
And what about the mother
Will she discover the truth
Behind this life we're living

(I knew I kept this for a reason)
Now everything we've ever had
Is here for us
Now everything we've ever had
Is here for us
(I knew I kept this for a reason)

Don't worry 'bout the father
I'll take care of him
And as for the mother
She always loved her son
And you look like him

I think you have "harming you" right, and I believe the missing line is "Set out and start anew".

I love this song. It's so beautiful.

The song ends before the line "And what of the father".

Yeah, I wrote the lyrics from the leaked version so, it's kinda messed up.

Sounds like: "A stolen smoke ascends"

My Opinion

at first I thought this was about the boy killing his father

but it's about the boy killing off his past, morals, etc

I'm so slow lol

Song Meaning

@k4zoo Actually, you were right. In the next song, Father, he poisons his father for various reasons.

leave this truth behind

start anew..

This song is frustrating to interpret. As much as I would like not to believe it I think it's about this man killing his upbringing, maybe a Christian one (who's to say it was a good one.. but still somewhat sad to just throw it all away) and then start from scratch from the earth up.

Also "dust in the debris". In the Bible it says we come from dust (and to dust we'll return).. I think He's rejecting the truth of these notions.
