A Little Polish Lyrics

A little polish on these old shoes
Whose leather time has abused
A little polish on these old shoes
Will make ‘em shine like brand new

In the attic, in the half-light
This old suit don’t look so well
(Well, and it smells)
On the collar is a little tear
Man, the stories this suit could tell
But if you brush off the cobwebs
This old suit still looks swell

And it seems like only yesterday
When you first put on that suit
With your slicked-back hair, your boutonniere
Man, the girls, they thought you looked cute
How I recall those memories

A little polish on these cufflinks
Yeah, they’re silver, no, they ain’t gold
(No, they ain’t gold)
An inscription there in Latin
Whose meaning you never were told
But if you shine up those cufflinks
They never, ever look old

And it seems like only yesterday
When you walked on down the aisle
With your corsage on your sweaty palm
Your face in a feverish smile
How I recall those memories

A little polish on these old shoes
Whose leather time has abused
A little polish on these old shoes
Will make ‘em shine like brand new
A little polish is gonna make ‘em shine
Like brand new

Cover art for A Little Polish lyrics by Blanks, The

I feel like this song is saying that things, or people, or ideas fade with time and get overlooked easily when they're old. But that you shouldn't disregard things that are old because they often have a rich history and can easily be fixed up. Very nostalgic and a little sad. Either that or it's just about some old clothing some guy found in his attic. Your choice.
