Massage The History Lyrics
oil dripping on my head
let's go back to bed
bring him back to me
bring him back to me
oil dripping on my head
bring you back
from the dead, from the dead
here's wishing here with me
here's wishing we could massage
the history, the history
i'm witness to what you do
anything that you feel
in between, between
you and me
you were near
along the sea, floating on debris
you're so close, close to me
you're so close, close to me
oil dripping on my head
let's go back to bed
bring you back, bring you back
from the dead, from the dead
wishing you were here with me
wishing you were here
let's massage the history
all the money's gone, all the money's gone
funny, it was never here, it was never here
here's a song, here's a song,
to the massage the history
come with me to the other side
not everyone makes it out alive
i want you to sign my neck
let's go back to bed
bring him back to me
bring him back to me
bring you back
from the dead, from the dead
here's wishing we could massage
the history, the history
anything that you feel
in between, between
you were near
along the sea, floating on debris
you're so close, close to me
let's go back to bed
bring you back, bring you back
from the dead, from the dead
wishing you were here
let's massage the history
funny, it was never here, it was never here
to the massage the history
not everyone makes it out alive

im so high right now and love this song, blowing my mind
This is another of SY winding beautidful meandering songs. Tangibly bittersweet. As old and numb as i've become with age, they've always been able to bring me back to that time when i could feel the dull ache of pure emotion (maybe angst?) right in the pit of my stomach.
Thank you SY. for reminding me.
sorry about the errors, but at least the ball's rolling, right? LOVE the eternal, it's incredible.
Apparently this was inspired by Buffy the Vampire Slayer (which Coco loves)....it's also supposed to be a metaphore for the record industry.
That's interesting. I had a feeling this song had something to do with Buffy. Where did you read that?

It sounds as some kind of memory to a lost person as well, like a lost lover, although considering Kim's married to Thurston, it's quite unlikely.
The "all the money is gone" part sounds like an ironic twist. Don't expect much drama from this band!
Spectacular song.
Sad to say, but this is a perfect swan song. Whatever happened between Kim and Thurston, it seems fitting that their last song would a bittersweet meditation on love, regret, and the immutability of the past.
for those of you who didn't already know, the "all the money's gone" lyrics was also sung on their first self-titled 1982 ep on the song "i dreamed i dream".
soooo the "history" is at least part literal.
For the record, Kim says in her autobio/memoir that this is the only song she wrote about her and Thurston's relationship.
Thanks to sarmiento and smallwonderrobot for those insights. This is one of my favorite Kim songs--indeed, one of my fave SY songs.
