The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.
Confess, your kiss still knocks me off my legs.
The first time I saw you was like a punch right through my chest
And I will forever, 'cause you'll forever be
My one true broken heart, pieces inside of me and you
And you'll forever, my baby be.
You will rest your head, your strength once saving.
And when you wake you will fly away,
Holding tight to the legs of all your angels.
Goodbye my love, into your blue, blue eyes,
Your blue, blue world, you're my baby blue.
Confess I'm not quite ready to be left.
Still, I know I gave my level best.
You give, you give, to this I can attest
You made me, you made me.
You and me forever, baby.
You will rest your head, your strength once saving.
And when you wake you will fly away,
Holding tight to the legs of all your angels.
Goodbye my love, into your blue, blue eyes,
In your blue, blue world, you and me forever.
You will rest your head, your strength once saving.
And when you wake you will fly away,
Holding tight to the legs of all your angels.
Goodbye my love, into your blue, blue eyes,
In your blue, blue world, you and me forever.

"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Hayalperest
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere.
In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
yeah, sorry guys, but this is not a tribute to leroi. this is about his sister. leroi didnt have blue eyes for one..
Coming from an AVID DMB listener and HIGE fan I assure you this song is about Leroi. At least in Daves mind writing it.

But Dave also believes in the autonomy of music in that it is up to the listener to decide what it means to him/her, so in that sense you still have tour credibility.
No Jimmithing, you're wrong. Dave doesn't write simple ditties that rhyme for the sake of rhyming. This is probably why he doesn't take the time to justify the lyrical content of his songs. One might ask why he's describing a kiss from a family memember that knocks him off his feet? "Blue" is clearly a methaphor and not meant to describe his sister's eye colour. Read Toni Morrison's "Bluest Eye" and you may see how this song directly relates to the ill fate of his friend, LeRoi.
I wonder why dave matthews wife's name Ashley appears in the sketch on the lyrics page of baby blue. Maybe someone finds an answer.
No. Guys this is most definitely about his sister Anne. For one like JimithingDMB said Leroi does not have blues. And For another Dave's sister Anne does. Im only 14 and I know this. Duh! its common sense. Why would he write a song saying "Goodbye My Love" to Leroi??? I mean seriously i know they were close but they werent that close. and "Blue Blue eyes" is referring to the color of her eyes. Its not a metaphor.
