Seven Languages Lyrics
I played this song for my love
But she said to me
"It has no meaning at all."
We walked across the park
And I said a word
And we went to the bar
For no reason at all
Well up in the sky
Well I saw a cloud
And I thought that it looked like something
But on second thought not
And I would come to visit you
But I can't find my car keys
And I can't remember where you live
And if I had just a little time
I could speak seven languages
I could walk on water
A friend calls me on the phone
And tells me a joke
Well I think that I laugh
But I don't remember at all
I woke up with a word in my head
And as far as I know
It has no meaning at all
Well up in the sky
Well I saw a cloud
And I thought it looked like a face
But on second thought not
And I would come to visit you
But I can't find my car keys
And I can't think of right words to say
And if I had just a little time
I could speak seven languages
I could walk on water
But she said to me
"It has no meaning at all."
We walked across the park
And I said a word
And we went to the bar
For no reason at all
Well up in the sky
Well I saw a cloud
And I thought that it looked like something
But on second thought not
But I can't find my car keys
And I can't remember where you live
And if I had just a little time
I could speak seven languages
I could walk on water
And tells me a joke
Well I think that I laugh
But I don't remember at all
I woke up with a word in my head
And as far as I know
It has no meaning at all
Well up in the sky
Well I saw a cloud
And I thought it looked like a face
But on second thought not
But I can't find my car keys
And I can't think of right words to say
And if I had just a little time
I could speak seven languages
I could walk on water

This song reminds me of the film, "Slacker" - it's definitely a mid-late '80s sorta feeling of people just hanging out in a college town with very little going on. The protagonist is a guy who thinks he can do something ("if I had just a little time/I could speak 7 languages/I could walk on water") unrealistic but in the end doesn't bother to follow this pursuit ("I woke up with a word in my head/And as far as I know/It has no meaning at all")
My two cents worth!
To me this deals with existentialism, and more specifically, the absurd. Basically he's saying some things just happen "for no reason at all", and they don't really matter in a cosmic sense. The hook is saying that he can do whatever he wants because he controls his fate, but in the end it wouldn't matter at all.
I like the bands CVB and Cracker and I really like this song in particular, but let’s not overthink it. It’s about being high on pot. Looking in the sky and seeing things in the clouds (or not), can’t find his car keys, can’t remember where she lives or if he laughed at a joke. He claims that he could accomplish so much more if he had the time, but in reality he’d probably just smoke the hours away.
