My heart's lost in the movies
My laughs fit for TV
My thoughts are radio friendly
What've you done to me

I've seen all this before
My head's a civil war
When I'm bored
When I'm bored

But I'll do what I can
There's nothing in my plans
But staying sane
But stay insane

We wrote down our white lies
Until the ink ran dry
Then we quit
Then we quit

Cause stitches in my side
Are coming out tonight
I'm through with this
I'm through with this

My record's never cling
It's what impatience brings
To my plate
To my plate

I was doomed from the start
So when this falls apart
I'm not my end
I'm not my end

Come marching through graveyards
Of modern ???
Values long forgotten

I think we've all lost our minds
I think we've all lost our minds

Alright now

Now that I've been ???
My heads just one big noose
And I'm sick
And I'm sick

But I'll do what I can
There's nothing in my plans
But stay insane

Man, this album rules. I like it even more than Ghost. Ben Cooper is one of the best lyricists I've ever encountered. He has such a unique vision. And musically, he's the most interesting guy going right now, in my opinion.

    A few comments:

-Should be "My record's never clean" not "My records never cling"

-The "graveyards" part should be "Rummaging through the graveyards / Of modern thought and values long forgotten"

-"Now that I've been" part is actually "Now that I've paid my dues / My head's just one big bruise"

-While I hadn't considered the "But staying sane / But stay insane" switch up (you're right, the phrases do sound similar), I don't think that interpretation fits with the theme of the album. It's about keeping it together in the modern age. I believe he just sings "But staying sane" twice the first time as well as once at the end.

Techno Ted
Audioslave
Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
