Last One to Die Lyrics

Everybody saying we gotta take a chance
And telling me what the hell went wrong
We only listen to the words that we sing
Now a million are singing along

(Last one)
We got it right, you got wrong,
Were still around (Last one to die)
Were going up, youre going down
Were still around (Last one to die)

The ones that counted us out
Regret that they packed the fight
We sit on top of the world
And were proving it every night

(Last one)
We got it right, you got wrong,
Were still around (Last one to die)
Were going up, youre going down
Were still around (Last one to die)

Thru the storm and the gigs
And the good and the bad
There aint no doubt
We knew from the very first show, what it was all about

(Last one)
We got it right, you got wrong,
Were still around (Last one to die)
Were going up, youre going down
Were still around (Last one to die)

(Last one to die)
(Last one to die)
(Come on)
(Come on)
(Come on)
(Last one to die)
(Come on)
(Come on)
(Come on)

Here are the correct lyrics straight from the booklet:

Everybody said we gotta take a chance And tell them what the hell went wrong We only listened to the words that we sang Now a million are singing along

We got it right, you got it wrong, we're still around Last one to die We're going up, you're going down, we're still around

The ones that have counted us out Regret that they picked a fight We sit on the top of the world And we prove it here every night

Through the storms and the gigs and good and the bad, there ain't no doubt We knew from the very first show what it was all about

My Interpretation

Dearborn Thanks, these are correct...the ones propagated all over the net (like the first entry here) are inaccurate.

its about the fact that these guys are still alive witch is surprising because of their history of drugs, alcohol, and gangs.

I really like the acoustic version of this song.

But anyways... it seems pretty clear to me that this song is basically Rancid saying: "hey, we always just did things our own way and we always knew that was the best way and even the only way to go about it. Along the way there were a lot of people who said 'no rancid, you're doing it wrong; you should be like this; or you should be like that'. But now that we've been doing our thing for twenty years--making music that we love and that our fans love--and maybe there are some others out there who, given a similar situation, would have stopped making records and stopped touring and playing shows at smaller venues... But not Rancid... because what we do now is similar to what we've always done--playing punk rock and connecting with people through our own music--it's what we set out to do in the first place and its what we still do and its what we love doing.
