To Kingdom Come Lyrics

That's a frosty way to speak,
To tell me how to live next to your potpourri
All this talking pulls my teeth.
I believed in you, so you believed in

Me, I cried out "God"
You dared me in the dark
I felt a hush fall quietly from my spark
so now I hide in piles of princely orange peels
It feels the way you told me how it'd always feel

Once I had a name to claim
I scraped on the walls like an orthodox saint
I wish for the same old things
That turn me inside out, hearing is the strain, it's a game

Me, I cried out "God"
You dared me in the dark
I felt a hush fall quietly from my spark
so now I hide in piles of princely orange peels
It feels the way you told me how it'd always feel

Never have I ever been
Clutching at your hair to cure you of some sin,
But that's the kind of state I'm in:
Swimming in a pool of godly medicine.

"Come, come," I hear it calling me, yelling,
Like if ever there was someone who could make things heavy again.
Feel alive!

Me, I cried out, "God", you dared me in the dark
I felt a hush fall quietly from my spark
So now I hide in piles of princely orange peels
It feels the way you told me how it'd always feel

Me, I cried out, "God", you dared me in the dark
I felt a hush fall quietly from my spark
So now I hide in piles of princely orange peels
It feels the way you told me how it'd always feel

This is what I hear during the second verse...

Once I had an name to claim, It scraped along the walls like an orthodox saint. I wish for the same old things That turn me inside out, Keeling in such pain... it's a game!

Yeah, I hear that too.

I thought this song is about the longing for someone who is unobtainable. It seems like he wants to be with her and she can't commit or keeps changing her mind and he keeps getting hurt and going back. "That's a frosty way to speak, To tell me how to live next to your potpourri" -maybe she's suggesting that they should remain friends and he doesn't think it's possible to be near her with his strong feelings. I think he wants her even though he knows he shouldn't. He's crying to God to get his sanity back.. He's being played.

I could be completely wrong.

I sympathize with this meaning more, so I'm going to agree with you. The two of them had history, "a name to call you", and now that it's no longer possible, he longs "for the same old things that turn me inside out."

great, great song.

That's a frosty way to speak, To tell me how to live next to your potpourri [religion often tells us how to "live" and how we are sinners and god is perfect. potpourri symbolizes perfectness. coz it smells really good. so yes, its quite frosty to demand us to live perfectly when humans are flawed.] All this talking pulls my teeth. I believed in you, so you believed in

[Chorus] Me, I cried out "God" You dared me in the dark [you can tell from first verse that there is a "doubt". dared me in the dark.] I felt a hush fall quietly from my spark [spark often symbolizes god's love or power. a hush fell quietly. continues the doubting theme.] so now I hide in piles of princely orange peels [princely - jesus being the son of god. orange peels - referring to the perfectness of potpouri] [so i hide in piles of it. because i am ashamed to admit that i am human and flawed.] It feels the way you told me how it'd always feel.. [possible sarcasm.]

Once I had a name to claim. It scraped along the walls like an orthodox saint. [a saint who would hold on to his beliefs - to the "name to claim" until death. so his own "name to claim" is now being scraped along the walls. its dieing.] I wish for the same old things that turn me inside out. Keeling in such pain, it's a game! [possibly the way we are addicted to things that cause us pain. its an explanation for why he hangs on to religion but acknowledges that its bad for him. like drugs. we know its bad but its hard to stop.

[Chorus]

Never have I ever been Clutching at your hair to cure ME? of some sin, But that's the kind of state I'm in: Swimming in a pool of godly medicine. [somehow he admits that he needs religion due to his current state. ironic huh.]

Come, come," I hear it calling me, yelling, Like if ever there was someone who could make things heaven again. Feel alive! [could be sarcastic. there is a struggle between him and religion?]

this one is definitely not to kingdom come. they put the whole album up on myspace.

yes it is dummy check to music video!! duh?

Like Omarihaha said, the official music video for the song with these exact lyrics is entitled "To Kingdom Come." The fact that "Eyes as Candles" says "to kingdom come" in its lyrics does not necessarily mean that the names are wrong. The official music video is at this address: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xh0ueJN5rvA&ob=av2n.

the chorus is:

Me, I cried out "God" You dared me in the dark I felt a hush fall quietly from my spark so now I hide in piles of princely orange peels It feels the way you told me how it'd always feel.

Correct Lyrics:

My world is stirring sickly Spits out our voices singing, "Sha la la, oh, no no," To kingdom come so slightly. Here in the void in your place, I twitch and tweak illusions To sit and stare so blankly Into our

Why do I always need to need you when you're fleeing? Where do you go when I'm around? What have I done, what have I lost that's so defeating? And have the nerve to wear the crown.

Oh Na na na na na na, hey hey (x4)

Suddenly across the room, A smoky figure fills me full, Makes my head swell and move. My family kneels at the pew; They do not really believe in what you're doing. I feel you rise above me, The western landscape's towering And from my shell of a body

Why do I always need to need you when you're fleeing? Where do you go when I'm around? What have I done, what have I got that's so defeating? And have the nerve to wear the crown.

Oh Na na na na na na, hey hey (x4)

I've waited and waited for someone to take it. Don't fight it, don't bother, an inch for another Don't listen, don't hear them, they're in this together. I won't run, now hear me, there's much to be fearing. I'm used to your absence, your faceless distraction.
