Seaweed Song Lyrics
Some day you'll see
Surrounded by angels
Floating atop of the sea
Abandon me
Don't go where they go
Don't sing all the songs they sing
[Chorus]
Nobody knows you the way you know you
But I think I do
But I thought I knew
Yeah, I thought I knew
Nobody knows you the way you know you
But I think I do
But I thought I knew
Yeah, I thought I knew
Between these walls
Her back, strange glimpse, casts shadows frighteningly tall
I slow to a crawl
I jump and I yell but she hears nothing at all
[Chorus]
Stay, stay the same
'Cause everything else will change
And I've always been to blame
So please just stay the same
The current has pulled me in
The tide has reached my chin
The seaweed tickles skin
Just let the water win
I'm freezing to the bone
You'll never be at home
Just watch, you're running out
Just watch your body go
[Chorus]
Surrounded by angels
Floating atop of the sea
Abandon me
Don't go where they go
Don't sing all the songs they sing
Nobody knows you the way you know you
But I think I do
But I thought I knew
Yeah, I thought I knew
Nobody knows you the way you know you
But I think I do
But I thought I knew
Yeah, I thought I knew
Her back, strange glimpse, casts shadows frighteningly tall
I slow to a crawl
I jump and I yell but she hears nothing at all
'Cause everything else will change
And I've always been to blame
So please just stay the same
The tide has reached my chin
The seaweed tickles skin
Just let the water win
I'm freezing to the bone
You'll never be at home
Just watch, you're running out
Just watch your body go

i see it similar but different, he's loosing a love to them finding thier religous identity. "bended knee" praying "surrounded by angels" but he's like surprised and stuff "nobody knows you the way you know you but i think i do, well i though i knew" she's changing and he doesn't know if she was always this way Stay, stay the same 'cause everything else will change And I've always been to blame So please just stay the same The currents pull me in The tide has reached my chin The seaweed tickles skin Just let the water win I'm freezing to the bone You'll never be at home Just watch, you're running out Just watch your body go
is about him pleeding her to stay and feeling drowned by the prospect of her fate
he's afraid of change... i think, that's open to critisism
I agree. with Farrhago.
Imagine a situation where you really care about somebody and you 2 are really close. The two of you are separated somehow (let's say you move and you plan to go back eventually) You guys never actually dated, but you have strong feelings for her, as she is really important to you. You always expect to come back to what you left but things dont really happen this way. Its difficult to preserve relationships from afar. Generally in life, there are numerous bad influences on people, more or less. And you don't want these things to influence her too strongly and change her from the person you feel so strongly for. You know everything's going to change, because thats what things do, but you want her to stay the same. Hence the drowning at the end. For time to leave her uniqueness untouched. But that doesn't happen. Time, and the many hardships of life scrape away, eroding her personality almost completely reshaping her into a different person. You feel like it's your fault since you left her. When you return, she's not the person you remember. Things are somewhat different and it tears you up inside. Hence the drowning at the end.
Ha, Idk if it'll make sense to a lot of people but It definitely applies here and in other situations.
"on banded knees"
should be "abandon me"?
great song btw.
definitely a great closer to the album.
'on bended knees' ?
I always thought it was on bended knees but I don't know...
This is one of my favorites of all their songs.
'Nobody knows you the way you know you But I think I do'
This song is about him losing touch with his love, and in response he drowns himself

Not the meaning intended, but the first time I heard this song I was reading about the sinking of the MV Estonia in 1994, and I found the connection chilling. Great song.
"But I thought I knew" should be "Well I thought I knew". This song to me represents a man who has lost a girl he really loved... "Nobody knows you the way you know you But I think I do Well I thought I knew, yeah, I thought I knew"
He wants her back, but she ignores him... "I jump and I yell but she hears nothing at all".
I've got no clue about the last verse, but that's my interpretation
Aw, I agree with Farrhago!
What follows, in my head, seems to be the man telling the woman of this song reassuringly,
Stay, stay the same 'cause everything else will change And I've always been to blame So please just stay the same
aww, because he's concerned for her once he's gone.
The currents pull me in The tide has reached my chin The seaweed tickles skin Just let the water win I'm freezing to the bone You'll never be at home Just watch, you're running out Just watch your body go
He's extremely close to death, dies, and starts to refer to himself as another person, because he is no longer. )-:
bended knee as in the pose one takes when proposing?
This song is about a girl he loves who was diagnosed with terminal cancer at an early age and sudden. He thought he knew she would fight and win but she knows she won't... thats how he thought he knew, and didn't accept it.
"someday you'll see surrounded by angels a top of the sea" Someday you will believe in faith and meet your maker, to everyone this lyrics apply.
"between these walls her backs casts shadows frighteningly tall, I slow to a crawl, I shout and and she hears nothing at all" The place she is fighting cancer, her home.. whatever. She is loosing weight and he shouts fight give it you all to overcome this, but she doesn't her him because she knows its beyond her. He slows to a crawl in his absorption of what is happening, its unbelievable, shocking.
"Stay the same, because everything else will change" is a desperate message to everyone to not change and take a dark corner like she did, its inevitable, you can't prevent it, don't wish you were any different because it might be as good as it gets.
He puts himself in her shoes by expressing what she feels and knows with the tide reaching her chin, she's freezing to the bone, she's cold from starving due to inability to eat from treatment and her body shutting down.
"Just watch your body go".... give in, you lost control, you are on a one way ticket, you'll never feel at home is you hang on, its not going to change, your gone. We will always remember you, and hopefully you are going to a new and better place.... nobody knows, we hope, we believe, but you and life as we know it are over.
Its sad, its overwhelming, its something we fear and never want to face but will... sooner than expected of not.
I lost my dad suddenly to cancer when I was 24... this song, hearing it after the event immediately made me know what the song was about..... for myself at least. It encapsulated my feelings and experience.
Everyone will likely relate to this differently, I don't think is as naive and trite as most people interpret. As you grow older and experience more, this song relates to your most tramatic exeperience you have experienced. Whether its a simple crush and not getting the girl, or really loosing somebody to powers completely out of you control... where everybody looses.... in this life at least.
If true, this song is way more depressing than I thought
