(English Translation - Courtesy of Richard Handal)
In the forest near the Danube river,
there is a nightingale singing,
he sings to gather everyone from his family
In the forest near the Danube river,
there is a bass vibrating and a fiddle crying,
I think of a place where my lovely one is strolling now
In the forest near the Danube river,
I am sick with my loneliness,
crying, I want to fly like a bird,
to where my lovely one is now.
Vin svoiu ptashynochku do hnizdechka klyche.
Bas hude, skrypka plache, molodets' huliaie.
I plachu, i rydaiu mylamylyi za toboiu.

Singularly the most beautiful song I have ever heard. The first time I heard it was a short time after my first girlfriend passed. For some reason, I was able to hold my feelings in for weeks until I heard this song...which was even more intense when I was able to read the translation. Not to be a complete downer, it did also interest me in getting back in touch with my Ukrainian roots. Thanks, Milla.
I loved this song the first time I heard it and I still love it now. When it came out, it was in the early days of the internet. I recall later, when I found out what the lyrics meant, it made it even more special. And I guess I 'technically' can speak a very few sentences of Ukrainian, all thanks to Milla!
