War in My Blood Lyrics
I've got a girl, she tastes like rain on my tongue
She's got the moon in her hips
And her eyes burn up like the sun
When I'm gone from my girl
When I leave her alone
There ain't nothing that I'm running from
There's war in my blood
I've still got wars to be won
My baby's soft and sweet
Somewhere between a flower and a gun
And where my girl is now, some day that's where I wanna be from
Love is a dollar that's already spent
Love is a song that we sung
There's war in my blood
Love ain't the tune in my lungs
So here's my consolation
An opponent is enough
It takes two to go to war
And only one to fall in love
I had a girl, I know precisely what made her run
Her skin was like the sky
It made my heart beat itself like a drum
I long for my girl and we meet in my dreams
I tell her she'll always be my only one
There's war in my blood
There ain't a thing love could have done
There's war in my blood
There's war in my blood
There's war in my blood
She's got the moon in her hips
And her eyes burn up like the sun
When I'm gone from my girl
When I leave her alone
There ain't nothing that I'm running from
I've still got wars to be won
Somewhere between a flower and a gun
And where my girl is now, some day that's where I wanna be from
Love is a song that we sung
There's war in my blood
Love ain't the tune in my lungs
An opponent is enough
It takes two to go to war
And only one to fall in love
Her skin was like the sky
It made my heart beat itself like a drum
I tell her she'll always be my only one
There's war in my blood
There ain't a thing love could have done
There's war in my blood
There's war in my blood

I think the line, "And where my girls is now somewhere that's where I wanna be from" is actually "And where my girl is now, someday that's where I wanna be from." It's as if he's saying he wants to settle down with this girl but that day is 'someday', not right now. I believe that he loves the girl, but he's not ready to settle down with her. He's been in love before and he finds it comfortable but not exciting, hence, "Love is a song that we've sung, love ain't the tune in my lungs." He's done it before. He's already experienced love and now he wants some new experiences. He's not ready to settle down and have a normal life, as he's "still got wars to be won" and new experiences to be had.
But I get the feeling that the girl no longer reciprocates his feelings because of him leaving to live his life. He says, "I know precisely what made her run," which indicates she's left to find someone more settled and he knows it. Throughout the song he compliments her and gives us images of how beautiful she is, as if he's trying to convince her to wait for him, and when he says, "I tell her she'll always be my only one," I get the idea that he's desperate to have something to come back to once he's done with his 'wars'. He reassures her that it's not because of her that he's leaving, it's not her fault that he feels he has to go, and she couldn't have stopped him: "There ain't nothing that I'm running from", and, "There ain't a thing love could have done." It's just something he had to do.
But the switch from "I've got a girl" to "I had a girl" suggests that his pleading is in vain, and he consoles himself that he's done the right thing, telling himself that "an opponent is enough" and he still loves her even if she doesn't love him: "takes two to go to war and only one to fall in love".
Finishing with the repetition of "there's war in my blood," he continues to reassure himself, saying it's in his blood and as such was something he needed to do.
Obviously he fell in love with the girl, but the girl wasn't exactly in love with him. And maybe he resents that a little bit, ex. "There's war in my blood."
I believe it means that he loved a girl and the girl loved him, but the love soon tore apart and he's unsure if the girl still loves him or not, hence "There's War in my blood."
He's fighting over what's true, and what's false. Every time he makes the correct decision it is contradicted.
This is one of my favorite songs.
"I've got a girl, she tastes like rain on my tongue She's got the moon in her hips And her eyes burn up like the sun When I'm gone from my girl When I leave her alone There ain't nothing that I'm running from" --This verse is setting up the story, describing how amazing this girl is and what she means to him.
"There's war in my blood I've still got wars to be won" --He has some hate and desire to fight from a previous relationship and he needs to go rid himself of the anger before he can come back to his girl.
"My baby's soft and sweet Somewhere between a flower and a gun And where my girl is now, some day that's where I wanna be from" --The girl he wants can be soft or hard and someday he wants to be by her side, once he has worked out he war from his blood.
"Love is a dollar that's already spent Love is a song that we sung There's war in my blood Love ain't the tune in my lungs" --He has already put all of his money/feelings into love with this girl and he loves this girl with everything he has, but he has a difficult time showing it, because of the hate in his heart, which he unfortunately displays while talking to her.
"So here's my consolation An opponent is enough It takes two to go to war And only one to fall in love" --Despite his attempts to make her happy he continues to be angry. His girl has a strong side and she stands up to him.
I had a girl, I know precisely what made her run Her skin was like the sky It made my heart beat itself like a drum --He knows exactly what it was that tore them apart, the angry deep inside of him. "War in his blood."
I long for my girl and we meet in my dreams I tell her she'll always be my only one There's war in my blood There ain't a thing love could have done --No matter how much he loves this girl there was nothing the love could have done to overcome his hate.
There's war in my blood There's war in my blood There's war in my blood -- Repeating the war in his blood, hoping that by making it known to himself and with time he can someday overcome it and return to his love.
Ultimately it boils down to having a deep angry and depression inside of you that causes you to push away the person you love the most. The pain and anger tears you and your love apart and you then set out to rid yourself of the anger so that someday you can return to your love. Fantastic song.
