Never Forget You Lyrics

Watcha drinkin'?
Rum or whiskey?
Now won'tcha have a
Double with me?

I'm sorry I'm a little late
I got your message by the way
I'm calling in sick today
So let's go out for old time's sake

I'll never forget you
They said we'd never make it
My sweet joy
Always remember me

We were mysterious
And you were always wearing black
I was so serious
You know my boyfriend's mother nearly had a heart attack

I'm sorry I'm a little late
You know the stripes on a tiger are hard to change
I know this
World feels like an empty stage
I wouldn't change a thing
So glad you're back again

I'll never forget you
They said we'd never make it
My sweet joy
Always remember me

I'll never forget you
At times we couldn't shake it
You're my joy
Always remember me

We just got swallowed up
You know I didn't forget you
We just got swallowed up
We just got swallowed up
And you love that I didn't forget you
We just got swallowed up
By the whole damn world

Watcha thinkin'?
Did you miss me?
I borrowed your silver boots
Now if you'd just let me give them back to you,

I'll never forget you
They said we'd never make it
My sweet joy
Always remember me

I'll never forget you
Although at times we couldn't shake it
You're my joy
Always remember me
Don't you know that you're my joy?
Always remember me
Don't you know that you're my joy?
Always remember me

I think this is about a best friend. I don't think it is about a boyfriend. I think it is about a friendship that ended but the friends really loved each other, almost like lovers but deeper; sometimes these friendships are deeper than romantic relationships. It makes me think about my ex-bff every single time I hear it. I don't think a woman would borrow her boyfriend's silver boots unless he had some tiny feet or she had some huge ones, either way, it would be weird to put that in a song about a boyfriend. Usually, people talk about a sweatshirt or t-shirt, not shoes when it comes to a boyfriend!

My Interpretation

good point! I guess the video just confused me, cause in it you see her place the boots in the back of a guy's car. Then she hides while he gets in and drives away with them.

i think your right apparently in some way this song is loosely based on the friendship of the group, whether they split up before becoming famous or something, i don't knoowww

I think it may be about a best friend and not a lover. She references "her boyfriend's mother" but the song is directed to a person. Also, the part about borrowing silver boots ... you know, I guess a guy might wear some silver boots, but that would be hard as hell to pull off. ;)

I can't believe nobody has commented on this yet. I love this song, much better than Don't Upset The Rhythm in my opinion!

I think this song is about a couple who split up, they both loved each other but it didn't work out. Both didn't think they could be friends, but its as if she's saying "You know what, yeah we can be friends. So it didn't work out? Who cares, lets just be good friends!"

She's saying to him that he was always special to her, she says: 'So glad you're back again' Maybe after they split they didn't talk, and now they're back to being friends and she's glad because she really cares about him: 'Don't you know that you're my joy?' and she never wants him to forget her: 'Always remember me'

This song is so lovely, it sort of has a 60's feel to it. One thing i'd like to add, it's one of those songs that just flies by! As soon as i press play, it's over again! Love it though! Plus, she has a fantastic voice!

I think plusbellange was on the right track, but did everyone forget about the possibility of a lesbian relationship??? I don't think this song is about a boy at all. I think it's about her first girlfriend. And, I don't think it's merely a coincidence that she calls this person "Joy", which is a female name. The line, " You know the stripes on a tiger are hard to change" coupled with " My boyfriend's mother nearly had a heart attack" leads me to believe that she always liked girls( maybe secretly?), but only dated guys in the past and then fell in love with this girl. Also, the line about borrowing the silver boots is proof that "Joy" is a girl. How many straight guys have silver boots that their girlfriend borrows and wears? But, the silver boots line also made me think about the end of a relationship when each person gives back the things they've borrowed ( books, dvds, t-shirts etc... )

Great song, I love the kind of 50s/60s vibe to it. Initially I thought it was about a guy but after I heard the silver boots line then I started to think it was about two best friends. Plus, the whole way through it's as if the singer is talking to the person so it wouldn't really make sense to say 'You know my boyfriend's mother nearly had a heart attack' if she were talking to the boyfriend. I think plusbelleange put it nicely.

Same for me..I just wanted to make sure I was right. The "boyfriend's mother" line says it all.

I would think that this song was about two schoolgirls, probably in the 70's judging by the northern soul feel, and one goes off to university/polytechnic etc, and grows, while the other (singer) has been left somewhat behind. She's so excited her friend is back that she misses work for a day, but her friend doesn't really want to see her. A really sad song I think.

My Interpretation

Hmm the idea of it being about a best friend makes a lot of sense. But I think the best friend might be a guy, who was in love with her at one point, even though she had a boyfriend. Which is probably the reason they didn't talk after a while, because her relationship deepened "I was so serious/you know my boyfriend's mother nearly had a heart attack" and became too much for her friend to bear. Now it's several years later, that relationship is over, and she's trying to reconnect with her friend, but he's apprehensive. They meet for dinner and she wants to see him again but still he's apprehensive, so she looks for any excuse, hence trying to return his silver boots. And if you listen to her earlier description of them "we were mysterious/and you were always wearing black," it's apparent they were very nonconformist, which makes it easy to believe the boots could have belonged to a guy.
