In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
The looking glass so shiny and new
How quickly the glamor fades
I start spinning slipping out of time
Was that the wrong pill to take? (Raise it up)
You made a deal and now it seems you have to offer up
But will it ever be enough? (Raise it up, raise it up)
It's not enough (raise it up, raise it up)
Here I am a rabbit hearted girl
Frozen in the headlights
It seems I've made the final sacrifice
We raise it up, this offering
We raise it up
This is a gift, it comes with a price
Who is the lamb and who is the knife?
Midas is king and he holds me so tight
And turns me to gold in the sunlight
I look around but I can't find you (raise it up)
If only I could see your face (raise it up)
Instead of rushing towards the skyline (raise it up)
I wish that I could just be brave
I must become a lion hearted girl
Ready for a fight
Before I make the final sacrifice
We raise it up, this offering
We raise it up
This is a gift it, comes with a price
Who is the lamb and who is the knife?
Midas is king and he holds me so tight
And turns me to gold in the sunlight
Raise it up, raise it up
Raise it up, raise it up
And in the spring I shed my skin
And it blows away with the changing winds
The waters turn from blue to red
As towards the sky I offer it
This is a gift, it comes with a price
Who is the lamb and who is the knife?
Midas is king and he holds me so tight
And turns me to gold in the sunlight
This is a gift, it comes with a price

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
This song is definitely about the her selling her soul to the devil. In, fact majority of her songs have deep occult and biblical references.
If you listen to the song "Seven Devils" and "Lover to Lover" it's pretty clear that she hates Jesus/God and has dedicated her life to Satan (see "No Light, No Light" and/or "I'm not calling you a Liar".
My little sister was a big fan of FATM but once I exposed her deep demonic lyrics she stopped immediately.
Btw, it's not just Florence. Every popular non-Christian band has sold their soul to the Devil.
I highly doubt that. I believe saying every popular non-Christian band has sold their soul to the devil is close-minded, and overly judgmental. The pilgrims came here to find religious freedom, and several of the founding fathers didn't even believe in God.

Please be more tolerant towards others and others' ideas, and stop being afraid of everything that doesn't bleed, sweat, and cry the word Jesus. Just because it doesn't, doesn't mean it's satanic and evil.
Which ones 'cause they were deists. That's not an atheist. And if you read the langauge in the many documents, you'll hear all about God. They also started every meeting with a prayer. So keep believing the bullcrap the atheists and secular humanists want you to swallow, but its factually CRAP
Honestly, it shouldn't matter what a band believes, and i understand if they were being offensive in there lyrics, but i really don't believe F+M is offensive against religion at all... you dont even know that it's about florence, many songs are writen in narative when it's not about them. And even though i do think this song is about sacrafice i dont think that it has anything to do with the devil.
Wow, you are so ignorant to things you don't know. I can assure you that not every popular non-Christian band has sold their soul to the devil. First of all, there no possible way for anyone to sell their soul to the devil. Not literally. That's an expression. Unless, of course, vampires and all the other mythical creatures exist. Where's evidence of any of this supernatural nonsense you speak? Grow up.

Secondly, trillian said it best. You're only thinking like this because you're under the impression that everything should be about Jesus. You're ridiculous and you need to open your eyes and look beyond religion. And stop believing everything you're told.
Oh God, here we go again, another bible thumper who thinks everyone who isn't a God fearing, good little Christian is automatically a satanist. I don't think Florence Welch would cover the song You've Got The Love (a song who lyrics are "I know my savior the lord is real") if she has sold her soul to your imaginary price of darkness. Nice job brainwashing your sister by the way, I'm sure you'll do just the same with your own children. Now go enjoy your Christian Rock while the rest of us live in reality.
