People are Crazy Lyrics
This old man and me,
were at the bar and we
Were having us some beers
and swaping I dont cares
Talking politics,
blonde and red-head chicks
Old dogs and new tricks
and habits we aint kicked
We talked about Gods grace
and all the hell we raised
Then I heard the ol' man say;
God is great, beer is good
and People are Crazy
He said "I fought two wars,
Been married and divorced"
What brings you to Ohio?
He said "Damned if I know"
We talked an hour or two
about every girl we knew
What all we put them through
Like two old boys will do
We pondered life an death
He light a cigarette
He said "These damn things will kill me yet;
But God is great,
beer is good and
People are Crazy"
Last call its 2am,
I said goodbye to him
I never talked to him again
Then one sunny day,
I saw the old mans face
Front page obituary,
he was a millionaire
he left his fortune to
some guy he barely knew,
his kids were mad as hell
But me, Im doing well
And I drop by today,
to just say thanks and pray,
I left a six-pack right there on his grave
and i said;
God is great,
beer is good,
and People are Crazy.
God is great,
beer is good,
and People are Crazy.

Truely a Song with a twist... Just goes to show that if you treat people un judgementaly sometimes unthinkable things can occure.. I Love the fact the greety little family got left out..
Actually, if you listen close, you can see it's a really nice song. Country songs are usually a ballad: they tell a story. In this story, it's about a guy who meets an old man at a bar and they start to talk about life and god. They have a really deep and interesting conversation but it comes to an end when they need to leave. Then one day, the guy sees an obituary on the newspaper with the face of the old man he was talking to, so he got the news that the old man died. But he also found out that he was a millionaire and he left all his money and wealth to him, the "guy he barely knew." His kids "were mad as hell" because the old man didn't leave them a cent! So the guy says he's doing well (of course) but he decides to drop by the old man's grave as a thanks. He brings a six-pack of beer to leave on the grave because he remembers talking to him about how "beer is good." So basically this story is to show the story of a man who met a rich guy at the bar and had a good conversation about it and in the end became rich because the old man left it all to him instead of his family.
I think this song has a twofold meaning. First, I think it says that we never know who we meet could be. Secondly, I think it says that we touch people in ways we do not even begin to realize.
Quote JamesMazur2: "I think this song has a twofold meaning. First, I think it says that we never know who we meet could be. Secondly, I think it says that we touch people in ways we do not even begin to realize."

Fine observation we never know who someone is - so true, someone can be old or young happy or sad...if we would just notice them hear them, see them seek them and be KIND to them...., and touching others lives...in the ways we do not realize...so true...made me think of the people who I met for...

So many people are rude and selfish in the world why can not we just be KIND to each other at least Most of the time?...the answer is in the song title...
i think the song is sweet it is just talken about a simple conversation between two people and how one or can fool the other. The boy must have made a good impact on that ole man cause he sure left him good!!
This song makes me think of my old man, whos advice to me has always been those three statements, God is Great, beer is good, and people Are damn sure crazy
This song really makes me think, mostly about how short life is and also how sometimes saying something as simple as " God is great, Beer is good, And people are crazy" can mean alot to someone else. i love this song.:)
A powerful song yet so simply written. Two guys meet at a bar and have bullshit about life. What was supposed to be a relaxing evening for both of them turned out to change their lives significantly.
This song is a powerful metaphor. In the end of the song the narrator is a "richer" person because of the conversation he had with that old man. The Kids were mad probably because they realized too late to cherish those simple conversations and life lessons passed down to us. You never know when I simple conversation can be life changing and make you that much richer, either spiritually, mentally, or emotionally.
Great comments everyone... I typed :"People are Crazy" in a search brower, and to my surprise someone wrote a song with this title sentence...what a great story and the meaning is so deep that I did not at first understand that the barely known guy is the young man who became rich, however wikipedia narration suggested it...it was not my initial thought...since the song does not directly say that. What a powerful statement and how true...sometime a stranger with a few words can uplift our spirit with taking the time to listen with genuine care for a few minutes or someone's smile or a kind word said in the right moment can mean a world to receipient of that kindness, leaving the giver unsuspecting of the impact (ever had a rough day and someone just took a minute to smile or say something kind to you), yet lifechanging experience that just in this song.... ( happily ending )went both ways....teaching us not a lesson of a quick wealth, but a lesson in human spirit: unpredictable and appreciating little things that may not seem like a big deal to others, routine or meaningless at the first glance...-but for someone else meant a world in that moment. Old man was right: G-d is great, beer is good and the People Are Crazy....(which can mean endearing crazy and directly crazy (rude, rough, inconsiderate and beyond)at the same time....- again proving the same point). Great song lyrics...writer is brilliant brilliant...and the people are...Crazy.
As far as the "God is great, beer is good and people are crazy." The old man may have referring to himself because at that moment he may have decided he finally found a good hearted man just like himself that he wanted to reward with his fortune and he may consider himself crazy for leaving him the fortune rather than his kids
