Wall of Arms Lyrics

I woke up with a loved one's eyes upon me
Loved one's arms around me
Oh...She's my one and only

I grew up in the bosom of my family
Eight strong arms around me
Oh...from the seed they've grown me

And I thank those
Those who kept me company
They are a wall of arms around me
Oh...it is they who are my army
Oh… it is they who are my army

Through these eyes
There's no god above me
No devil below me
No purgatory, no pearly gates
The worms are what await me
It’s only me that can forgive me and
I have faith, oh...I have faith
I have faith, oh...I have faith
In those who put up with me

She's my one and only
If I'm the seed they've grown me
They who are my army
The wall of arms around me

I think the following line sums up the meaning of the song:

And I thank those Those who kept me company They are a wall of arms around me Oh...it is they who are my army Oh it is they who are my army

It's the security of having friends and family ... the wall of arms being like a massive 'hug' if that makes sense! Great tune with great meaning

To me it's about spending your life surrounded by the ones you love. Your partner, your friends and your family. Instead of looking to religion he puts his faith in those who support him.

It is clearly a song about the band's atheism, especially in the following lines:

Through these eyes There's no god above me No devil below me No purgatory, no pearly gates The worms are what await me Its only me that can forgive me and I have faith, oh...I have faith I have faith, oh...I have faith In those who put up with me

They're almost mocking the christian views of a forgiving god, and saying they have faith not in god but in their friends and family.

My Interpretation

him being an atheist has nothing do with it besides the fact he stated some of that belief system in the song it isn't about the band's atheism its him(or them I don't know if they collab on lyrics) expressing himself and his view of comfort in life while knowing you will die
