A Fish on Land Lyrics
I had a dream last night
A fish on land
Gasping for breath
Just laughed
And sang this song
Is life like this for everyone
Is life like this for everyone
I picked him up
He had a human face
I carried him
To where the water was
A grey and still and dusty thing
A grey and still and dusty thing
I dropped him in
And he could breathe again
And then he grew
And he became a man
I knew that I would marry him
I knew that I would marry him
I had a dream last night
A fish on land
Gasping for breath
Just laughed
And sang this song
Is life like this for everyone
Is life like this for everyone?
A fish on land
Gasping for breath
Just laughed
And sang this song
Is life like this for everyone
Is life like this for everyone
He had a human face
I carried him
To where the water was
A grey and still and dusty thing
A grey and still and dusty thing
And he could breathe again
And then he grew
And he became a man
I knew that I would marry him
I knew that I would marry him
A fish on land
Gasping for breath
Just laughed
And sang this song
Is life like this for everyone
Is life like this for everyone?

reminds me of Miyazaki's ¨ponyo on the cliff by the sea¨ great movie
great song
To me this song depicts the fateful encounter with her lover/husband. It also describes her isolation and doubts as she wonders if anyone else experiences powerful premonitions like she has had with regards to the man she's met (the fish on land). It's as if she was warned of the apparition of her lover through her dream and seeks to understand by asking if this happens to everyone, should she believe it? Wonderful song.
