Let's Get Clinical Lyrics
Let's go back to your house
And finish off the gin
Your dishevelled room
We're gonna wash ourselves in sin
Ooh! It's criminal when you whisper in my ear
Let's get clinical the words delivered with a smear
Let's get clinical
I'd like to map your body out
Inch by inch
North to south
And I'm free for circumnavigation
Will you awaken my delight?
Your fingerprints upon my skin
Your voice has twisted how we sink
Tonight I'll let desire win
Ooh! It's criminal when you whisper in my ear
Let's get clinical the words delivered with a smear
Let's get clinical
I'd like to map your body out
Inch by inch
North to south
And I'm free for circumnavigation
I'd like to map your body out
Inch by inch
Head to toe
Bare ankles used to mean adventure
Last nights dirty lips were wrapped around that glass
Creeping past your flatmates door
The empty bottles on the floor
Ooh! It's criminal
Woah! Lets get clinical
I'd like to map your body out
Inch by inch
North to south
And I'm free for circumnavigation
I'd like to map your body out
Inch by inch
Head to toe
Bare ankles used to mean adventure
With you they still do
With you they still do
With you they still do
And finish off the gin
Your dishevelled room
We're gonna wash ourselves in sin
Let's get clinical the words delivered with a smear
Let's get clinical
Inch by inch
North to south
And I'm free for circumnavigation
Your fingerprints upon my skin
Your voice has twisted how we sink
Tonight I'll let desire win
Let's get clinical the words delivered with a smear
Let's get clinical
Inch by inch
North to south
And I'm free for circumnavigation
Inch by inch
Head to toe
Bare ankles used to mean adventure
Creeping past your flatmates door
The empty bottles on the floor
Woah! Lets get clinical
Inch by inch
North to south
And I'm free for circumnavigation
Inch by inch
Head to toe
Bare ankles used to mean adventure
With you they still do
With you they still do
With you they still do

bare ankles were something exciting a 100 years ago just because a lady would never show them in public, it was as decent as showing your nipples to everybody is today. so, nobody gets especially turned on by a bare ankle anymore, it's sort of outdated - except for that one lady he talks about, with her everything is still exciting, even a simple bare ankle.
i think this is fairly obviously about sex, but the geographic references i'm not sure about, nor the ending 'with you they still do' though it seems to be about sex with someone you don't know, a 'clinical' and sterile approach to sex, without any emotions. so maybe he means he's trying to figure her out and find his way around her
but i'm gonna go ahead and be the first to say paul smith can circumnavigate me any day
Yeah, I think this is about casual sex, like solomi says, and I think the geographical bits are about how when you have one night stands and stuff for some people the other person's just a conquest, nothing more. And when he says fingerprints in the second verse, not fingertips, that's also somehow less personal, more, well, clinical. As for the bare ankles bit and the ending, 'bare ankles used to mean adventure' = the flirting, thrill of the chase type bit when you are excited about a real relationship, which is lost in a fling, so 'with you they still do' = they don't have this bond of caring for each other. Love this song.
This song is tooooo good. It's my favourite off the new album. "I'd like to map your body out..." amazing lyrics. And yeah...I immediately thought that with the bare ankles which used to be considered shocking. I didn't actually particularly think that it was sex with someone you don't know...I took it to seem a bit more intimate than that, like sex with a friend or something. Not that it comes through from the song, I just thought of it like that when I first heard it. Probably something to do with the admiration that comes through in the chorus of taking the time to map someone's body out and know every part of it. It seems like that wouldn't necessarily be about someoen you didn't know. But that's just what I think.
In my rambly way. :)
