The Quitter Lyrics
Now it may seem like this song is about Smelly, there are some parts in the song that don't make any sense if the song were to be about Smelly. Such as the part where Fat Mike lists some historic writers/novelists, Thompson as in Hunter S. Thompson, Hemingway as in Ernest Hemingway, Bukowski as in Charles Bukowski, and Bill Burroughs. It just doesn't make any sense how that has any connection to Smelly. Maybe this song is Fat Mikes conscience that's telling him to quit drinking, and Fat Mike is pretty much saying fuck that! I'm probably wrong but it's just a thought cuz if he's talking about writers it would only make sense that Fat Mike (the writer) is what this song is about.
Smelly is a quitter!!!
This song does seem to be about Smelly. I wonder how he felt about that? Maybe they didn't tell him the lyrics until after they recorded the drum tracks. That would be hilarious.

Yeah it does not seem to be about Smelly... but at the show in Montreal, they said it was about him because he was always quitting the band..

This is an awesome song, can't wait for the album to come out. I don't know what it's about though. :\
The song is about people who are addicted to drugs or alcohol
Or maybe it IS about smelly, but more so what he has to deal with since he quit. Since he is in a band there are a lot of people out there that say this shit to him since he's sober. So the lyrics are directed at smelly but they are not from the band or fat mike, the words are coming from people who want smelly to start drinking again but don't understand.
Ok like i just said i heard this song at a show in Montreal.

'and it's not about our drummer, at all...'
Instead of "You got a habit, got to have it 'til it's finished don't stop" 'stop' is actually 'drop'
Thomson, Hemmingway, bukouski, and burroughs are in the song not because they are authors, but because they are authors that are famous for their excesses. hemmingway was a drunk, as was bukouski, and Thompson...drunk, speed freak, psychonaut...... oh yeah and burroughs was a junkie
Anyone know what the Charlie Chan reference is all about? "The Charlie Chan's chopped, Pabst pitcher's been poured."

Wikipedia says he is a famous movie character but I don't see any reference to drugs or a reason why he is used in the lyrics as such.

I think its about celebritites who make a big to do about going into rehab. About how they probably see themselves as "tortured artists" but are just whiny little bitches that will never contribute anything on par with the people metioned.
I was reading about "Eddie, Bruce and Paul" and may be Mike is in a way still complaining about Steve for Kicking out Paul (i think i understood that Mike liked Paul better for being more punk) for his drug abuses. In that song he also says "How you supposed to rock n roll without substance abuse". But then i might got it all wrong. Still a great song though :-)
