It's about Iron Maiden.

The last line should be "The Number of the Beast is in bed with Rob and Judas Priest."

Lyrics are:

What happened to Bruce, Eddie, and Paul? Paul and Eddie had it good But Paul loved his cocaine and Eddie hated punks So after a couple years Eddie broke it off with Paul to look for a new man

Paul got fucked, fucked by Steve Eddie’s at the Red Lion looking for a new steed Searching for a beau who sings in falsetto

What happened to Bruce, Eddie, and Paul? What happened to Eddie, Paul, and Bruce? Bruce and Samson knew Eddie was looking for a long term, stable relationship With Paul no longer around, Bruce left Samson for Eddie cuz Steve...

real quick. EDDIE=IRON MAIDEN STEVE=FOUNDER OF IRON MAIDEN PAUL=FORMER SINGER FOR IRON MAIDEN SAMSON=BRUCE DICKINSONS FIRST BAND BRUCE=NEW SINGER FOR IRON MAIDEN

iron maiden had it good, but paul did too much coke, and iron maiden wasn't a punk band, but paul was too much of a punk rocker i suppose idk. So after a while, paul got kicked out of iron maiden, so they looked for a new front man. paul got fucked, steve the founder of iron maiden fucked him by kicking him out. THE RED LION is an english pub i think, and iron maiden was looking for a new singer. probably not really at a pub but it sounds cooler in the song. looking for someone who can sing falsetto, i.e. bruce dickinson. SAMSON, the band, knew iron maiden was looking for a new front man. Bruce left his old band SAMSON to join IRON MAIDEN, cuz steve, the founder and songwriter of iron maiden convinced him to. then fat mike proceeds to say fuck off to bruce for taking pauls spot cuz he likes drugs and stuff. but watever i dont get the last line though. the number of the beast is a CD IRON MAIDEN put out. so y would it be in bed with rob and judas priest? maybe he's saying that metal bands suck because they dont do drugs lol. that could be it.

Nearly everything right there, monkey96.

So you don't have to suppose no more: Iron Maiden's first two albums (the ones using Paul as the singer) are considered pretty much punk-influenced. In general, the early Iron Maiden were notorious for mixing up elements of Punk and Metal. Almost all of the songs on the first two albums were written as early as 1976/77/78 (during punk's explosion), but they were released as late as 1980 and 1981, respectively. The punk attitude and style was nearly completely based upon Paul's singing style and influence as a song writer.

With the firing of Paul and the hiring...

since rob of judas priest is gay NOFX is calling the album Number of the BEast gay by saying its in bed with rob....they probably mean that every album after Paul left is gay so thats what theyre saying...i like this song but i have to disagree with the message because i love bruce's maiden

@infectedmonkey96 There are lots of pubs in England called The Red Lion. However, The Red Lion in Leytonstone, UK is where Steve, Dave Murray and Doug Sampson (that's who Sampson in the song refers to) met Paul Di'Anno and offered him an audition. I found all of this with a quick search on Wikipedia so there's not a lot of detail in it, sorry. In terms of whether they actually went looking for a singer in a pub, many pubs in the UK act as music venues for local and unsigned bands so they may have gone along to see...

I wonder if Fat Mike knew Bruce was once a roadie for the Clash and actually was part of the late 70's UK punk scene. Bruce has mentioned it many times during interviews. While many metalheads/bands had their fueds with punks and punk bands Bruce was part of both scenes.

or, of course, it could also just be that he refers to Robert Halford from JP.

I believe you are on the right track. Clearly the song is about Iron Maiden. I think the line about Rob is definitely about Rob Halford. These bands toured together often and when I was younger there was a rumour that Halford was a homosexual (which he has of course confirmed). The second part of that rumour was that Paul D'Anno was also homosexual and they were lovers. I guess the bottom line is who cares, the song rocks, Maiden rocks, and Priest Rocks.

I am not too familiar with Iron Maiden so I looked them up on Wikipedia. Who was Eddie?

Cover art for Eddie, Bruce, and Paul lyrics by NOFX

Eddie is the "mascot" of Iron Maiden, the zombie/undead/mummy present on every album cover and/or related artwork of the band.

So, in this case and for this song, 'Eddie' should be read as 'Iron Maiden'

Samson (no 'p') was the band Bruce Dickinson was in before joining Iron Maiden (but that's pretty obvious here anyway)

One the lines should say, by the way : "Searching for a beau who sings in falsetto"

The whole story is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Maiden

also, your lyrics are wrong, my interpretation:

What happened to Bruce, Eddie and Paul What happened to Bruce, Eddie and Paul

and Eddie had it good, but Paul loved his cocaine, and Eddie hated punks So, after a couple years, Eddie broke it off with Paul, to look for a new man

A new man

Paul got fucked, fucked by Steve, Eddie's at the red lion looking for a new Steed Searching for a beaux who sings in falsetto

What happened to Bruce, Eddie and Paul What happened to Eddie, Paul and Bruce

and Samson knew Eddie, was looking for a long term, stable relationship With Paul no longer around, Bruce left Samson for Eddie, cause Steve convinced him to Kudos to Paul, fuck you Bruce, How you supposed to rock n roll without substance abuse number of the beast is in bed with Rob and Judas Priest
