No Twilight Within The Courts Of The Sun Lyrics

Draggin’ a lake
Find the owner of the voice
I zip in the bag
And drove all across the noise

Examine the hairline
His archives in the strands
He turned into something
That puts the weakness in my hands

I see what I suppose
I breathe what I dispose
Black wheels get yellow in the sand
I steal every idea that I can

(something something) shadows in the lake
(something) she (something) beside (something)
(something something) in a car
(something something) in the dark

Draggin' the lake Find the owner of the voice Zippin' the bag And drop off across the noise

Examine the hairline As archives in the strands You're telling me something That puts the weakness in my hands

I see, what I suppose I breathe, what I dispose Black wheels getting yellow in the sand I steal every idea that I can

Instead of a person, a shadow's in the lake Instead of coercion, she blows its own grenade I'd live in a mansion, to dying in a car I reach corrosion, a suitcase in the dark

Some taken from a live performance, much easier to hear the words, I'd say it's pretty close.

Damn, I cannot understand what the hell he's saying. I tried to add some but it's not much.

Drain the lake Find the owner of the voice Zip in the bag And drop off across the noise Examine the hairline As archives in the strands You’re telling me something That puts the weakness in my hands

I see, but I suppose I breathe, but I dispose Black wheels turn yellow in the sand I steal every idea that I can

Should I question the shadows in the lake? Should I question, she moves aside her (something/lace?) Wtf I reach corrosion and sink here to die

Wilson was heavily inspired by Mexico and Mexican culture as he was creating this album. I think this song examines how inspiration can sometimes resemble and feel like stealing. The title, well, perhaps twilight is kind of like the gray middle between black and white. There is no murky gray in the courts of the sun. There is only a right and a wrong side in these... courts. The courts of his mind? Either the ideas are stolen or they're not. I don't know.

"Drain the lake, find the owner of the voice" He drains this lake, which is like a well of ideas. He finds the owner of the voice that has been inspiring him.

"Zip in the bag and drop off across the noise" Um, he zips up his bag of ideas he has stolen? Then he runs away I guess.

"Examine the hairline as archives in the strands" I don't know about the rest of the song but this is a beautiful line. He examines his hairline, thinking about how much he has aged and ponders how the strands of hair are like archives of his life.

"You’re telling me something that puts the weakness in my hands" Pretty straightforward, someone tells him something that makes him weak. Probably someone reveals to him that he is stealing ideas.

"I see but I suppose. I breathe but I dispose" Hm, he sees things and supposes from them, finds inspiration. He breaths but then disposes of those ideas?

"Black wheels turn yellow in the sand. I steal every idea that I can" Well, Mexico is a very dry place in certain areas so this image is probably inspired by driving through the desert as he goes through Mexico. Then he comes out and says it, he steals every idea he can.

(I could be completely wrong on these next few lyrics)

"Should I question the shadows in the lake?" Should he question the inspiration he receives from these places.

"Should I question, she moves aside her (something/lace?)" Maybe, oh this is a stretch, should he question these ideas when they (she) reveal themselves to be stolen? (Moves aside her lace like a mask to reveal the truth).

No fuckin' clue what he says here, something about a car?

"I reach corrosion and sink here to die" Straightforward. He can't take this anymore and lays down to die.

In the part of the car I can hear about DYING IN A CAR... we should work on this song because it's very mysterious and it is worth it

This is how I hear the lyrics. I'm not sure how accurate I am, though. (First time I listened to Blackfield's Waving, I made many mistakes when trying to interpret the lyrics, aagh.)

Drainin' the lake Find the owner of the voice Zippin' in the bag And drove off across the noise

Examine the headlights His archives in their strands You're tellin' me something That puts the weakness in my hands

I see, but I suppose I breathe, but I dispose OR I see what I suppose I breathe what I dispose

Black wheels get yellow in the sand I steal every idea that I can

Underwater, these shadows in the lake Turning the lights out, she throws aside grenades (?) In this collision, dying in a car/truck (?) There is corrosion, and some kids need to die (?)

Wow guys! Look what I found.

The title of this song is taken from David Bedford's album The Rime of the Ancient Mariner Part 1. I was listening to Steven's favorite concept albums and this was one of them. It's at the very end at about minute 20. I couldn't believe it when I heard it and the lyrics go

Death and Life-in-Death have diced for the ship's crew, and she (the latter) winneth the ancient Mariner. No twilight within the courts of the Sun. At the rising of the Moon, One after another, His shipmates drop down dead.

This is the only place you can read the lyrics in full. http://www.dbennett.karoo.net/David%20Bedford%20Lyrics.html This may have to do with Steven stealing idea's? I'm curious why he would put this out there for his fans to know he steals ideas.Granted the lyrics are very original.

Interesting one Spiraleyes. One person on the net once optioned that there are references in the title. Within: Within you/without you - The Beatles The courts of; In the court of the Crimson King - King Crimson But I found that too far-fetched,

As far as the lyrics go, this is my 2 cents worth from listening to the live version:

Draggin' the lake
Find the owner of the voice
Zippin' the bag
Drove off across the noise
Examine the hairline
As archives in the strands
You’re telling me something
That puts the weakness in my hands

I see, what I suppose
I breathe, what I dispose
Black wheels gettin' yellow in the sand
I steal every action that I can

?, a shadow in the lake.
Spend corrosion, she blows it's own grenade
I'd live in a mansion, to dyin' in a car.
I reach corrosion, a suitcase in the dark

Draggin' the lake Find the owner of the voice Zip in the bag I drove both across the noise

Examine the hairline His archives in the strands You're telling me something That puts the weakness in my hands

I see what I suppose I breathe what I dispose Black wheels getting yellow in the sand I steal every idea that I can

(? - something voices) a shadow in the lake (Spend corrosion?) she blows this hand grenade I have an aversion to dying in a car I reach corrosion - a suitcase in the dark

I'm pretty certain about the next to last line ("I have an aversion to dying in a car"), but the two lines before that are still a complete blank.

As to what it means: no idea at all.
