Slowly (Oh So Slowly) Lyrics
Potential, well, you're a loaded line
The veil between the world and the faceless bride
There's nothing yet but a bunch of white
Oh potential, well, you're a loded line
Tomorrow, well, I will wait for you
Laying right here floating in this swimming pool
There's a lot of things I've got left to do
Oh tomorrow, but I'll wait for you
The days keep slipping down into the cracks
It takes a while to realise where you're at
Slowly (so slowly)
Slowly (so slowly)
Slowly, it's slowly ending
Dementia, you better treat me good
The human race is in its second childhood
I never learn but I understood
Oh dementia, you better treat me good
Sometimes I need a place to go
Classical music plays from the radio
I sit real still, let my shadow grow
Yeah, sometimes I need a place to go
My mind keeps slipping back into the past
I hope someday I can get it back
Slowly (so slowly)
Slowly (so slowly)
Slowly, they're slowly ending
So slowly
Slowly (so slowly)
Slowly, slowly
It's slowly ending
And soon that train is going to pull away
I hear it whistling, I try to wave at a glowing face
They can't tell who I am
Slowly (so slowly)
Slowly (so slowly)
Slowly, it's slowly ending
The veil between the world and the faceless bride
There's nothing yet but a bunch of white
Oh potential, well, you're a loded line
Laying right here floating in this swimming pool

"I never loved but I understood" is "I never learn but I understood"
I don't usually understand what his songs means, but I love them anyway. Take It Easy (Love Nothing) is my favorite of all.
Love how he sings differently from this album.
This song is really hard to translate, could anyone explain to me what this "loaded line" stands for ? bear_hug20 is right, "Slowly (Oh So Slowly)" is pretty much impossible to understand. I mean, we don't even know WHAT is slowly ending.
"Potential, well, you're a loaded line"
"Potential, well, you're a loaded line"
i think it means that he has fulfilled his potential.
i think it means that he has fulfilled his potential.
like, i have not been writing songs while drunk or high (they say that helps) so i have more potential left right there consearning beeing a better songwriter. but conor beeing on coke and drinking a lot, has loaded his potential.

*don't think conor takes drugs anymore.

Does it seem to anyone other than me that "loaded line" and his reference to "white" may be some obscure reference to cocaine? That was what first occurred to me when listening to it. I'm still trying to work out why he would use that reference for potential shrug
All in all I think the song is mostly about allowing life to pass you by, waiting for tomorrow to do all the things you have left to do and continously putting if off until all the days have slipped away and you are dying. The reference to dementia seems to be referring to the growing older.
By saying "My mind keeps slipping back into the past I hope someday I can get it back" I think he may be saying that he finally realizes all the opportunities he let slip by and he wishes he could reverse the clock and go back to do all those things.
And the last verse about the train pulling away is most definitely a reference to death.
It makes sense that this song would be about missed chances and life ending. With Conor's struggles with family, depression and drugs and alcohol it is no wonder that he may have regrets about missing out on certain things in life...
Thank you, that really helps. I had such a hard time understanding this song !

I think Shirono is right. I also think that the title Slowly, oh so slowly ending, kinda stands for dying? I might be wrong, but I don't know.. It's really hard to find out and know exactly. Nice song though
The first couple of stanzas seem to be about the pressure of having a lot of potential... when you're a genius like Conor, there is a lot of pressure to create something amazing..."potential is a horrible thing to waste and all that." Well he responds by wasting it, and trying not to think of all the things that he needs to live up to. He is passing is life this way and he feels it slowly ending. I think the dementia stanza might be about the relief of losing touch with reality (kind of a twist on the way the disease is usually looked at)... for now he tries to find a place to go where he doesn't have to think or do anything, just "let his shadow grow." He's thinking back on the time he's wasted and hopes "someday he can get it back." In the last stanza about the train, he is departing (by train, apparently) into the afterlife and he is trying to wave at the people he's leaving behind (in this analogy on the train station platform)... but no one knows who he is. He hasn't left any imprint on the world... ::shrugs:: just my thoughts
