Hey, you, we just got started,
You can't end this now.
Hey, you, we just got started,
You can't end this now.
You've payed your dues, you're free,
Of what are you afraid?
You've payed your dues, you're free,
Of what are you afraid?
Taking on responsibility knowing it will weigh you down...
Freedom is a possibility only if you're able to say no.
People in northern Europe since medieval times,
We find it hard to deal with when our dreams come true.
As it happens in success in the world that afflicts the mount,
And if you feel up, somebody somewhere else feels down.
Taking on responsibility knowing it will weigh you down...
Freedom is a possibility only if you're able to say no.
Taking on responsibility knowing it will weigh you down...
Freedom is a possibility only if you're able to say no.
You can't end this now.
Hey, you, we just got started,
You can't end this now.
You've payed your dues, you're free,
Of what are you afraid?
You've payed your dues, you're free,
Of what are you afraid?
Freedom is a possibility only if you're able to say no.
We find it hard to deal with when our dreams come true.
As it happens in success in the world that afflicts the mount,
And if you feel up, somebody somewhere else feels down.
Freedom is a possibility only if you're able to say no.
Taking on responsibility knowing it will weigh you down...
Freedom is a possibility only if you're able to say no.

Well, here are my thoughts as a new member of Songmeanings...
Referring to the title of the song, the lyrics are about Martin Luther, an well-known german theologian. Martin Luther fixed the famous 95 theses on a church in Wittenberg, situated in the eastern part of Germany as a opposing sign towards an well known practice to save your soul by paying money to the church ,these were the so-called "Ablassbriefe"(letters of indulgence). This historical background is underline by the lyrics:
"You've payed your dues, you're free, Of what are you afraid?"

PS: Sorry for posting it as a reply a few minutes ago.
"As it happens in success in the world that afflicts the mount" is supposed to be as if happiness exists in the world at a fixed amount

"We find it hard to deal with when our dreams come true."
I think this song is telling us that we are responsible for our own happiness and freedom. It says also that both often come with a higher price, that few people can afford. Because free and happy people will call others attentions, attract their envy.
Great lyrics, I think it´s a very wise song.
I so agree.
I so agree.
He first few lines of this song are probably saying, "Hey, we've only gone on a few dates, we haven't seen each other's good sides." It's too early in the relationship to break away because he has so much more to offer.
Not entirely sure what the you've payed your dues, you're free... part means but, " Of what? Are you afraid?" probably means, " What are you afraid of? I give you so much respect."
"Taking on responsibility knowing it will weigh you down" The girl probably used the line, "It's not you it's me" She's taking on the responsibility of the failure of the relationship knowing it will make her look bad.
"Freedom is a possibility only if you're able to say no" Look, don't give me that crap. Just say no, I don't want to be in a relationship. The truth is much better than, "it's not you, it's me." You'll be free from this if you do.
Just my thoughts on it! :D
