Save Me From What I Want Lyrics

Keys are in my pocket
And they rattle you away

Seventh floor apartment
and a fiery escape

But I'm a wife in watercolors
I can wash away

What seventeen cold showers
Couldn't wash away

Save me
Save me
Save me from what I want

Save me
Save me
Save me from what I want

Save me
Save me
Save me from what I want

Honey, what reveals you
is what you try and hide away
You could tell the planets
or your pillow case

But I'm a wife in watercolors
I can wash away
what seventeen cold showers
Couldn't wash away

Save me save me save me from what I want
Save me save me save me from what I want
Save me save me save me from what I want
Save me save me save me from what I want
Save me save me save me from what I want
Save me save me save me from what I want

"Honey, what reveals you, Is what you try and hide away"

Perfect.

I think it actually goes,

"Keys are in my pocket They rattle you awake

Seventh floor apartment And a fire escape."

"fiery" according to the lyrics included in the physical album, BROOOOOOOOOOO

OOPS. Pwned.

I was going more based off of what I thought made sense at the time, but re-reading the lyrics and reflecting on the song's meaning, "fiery escape" actually makes more sense.

And it's probably also meant to be a double entendre--based on the context and her pronunciation.

I love the "watch your step" backing vocal. it makes me smile.

I think it's about a woman cheating on her husband, even though she knows that it's wrong.

I think this is about a woman who is having a relationship with someone else who doesn't want necessarily want anything from her: "I'm a wife in watercolors, I can wash away." But she feels guilty for letting herself pretend that it means anything "What seventeen cold showers couldn't wash away" and "Save me from what I want." Any takers?

I like the play on words in the "wash away" pre-chorus part.

Going with the cheating angle, it seems this woman this is in a very stifling and repressed marriage. The keys rattle her husband away because he doesn't want to rock the boat by confronting her when she leaves for her late-night trysts (this is also a double entendre with the word "awake").

She's a wife in watercolors in that she can disguise the emotions she shows on the surface--not let on her feelings about the affair to her husband, just as she doesn't let...

you're absolutely right, to me this song is very obvious, theres really np hidden meaning... well to people like us.

I feel like it's about a wife who knows her husband's cheating on her and she's dealing with her frustrations, like she still wants him or something.

I believe her husband abuses her, but she chooses to ignore it and stay within this relationship. She tries to forget when he hits her, (washes it away). This can correlate to the whole album, which i believe is about a depressed housewife.

also he tries to hide his anger and his rage that he builds up around others, so they don't know. This also correlates with The Neighbors, in which he or she doesn't want everyone to know that truth behind the relationship, they want it to look perfect and cut copy.

I agree that the lyrics are
"Keys are in my pocket They rattle you awake Seventh floor apartment And a fire escape."

in the comments it seems people either think this is about a wife cheating or a husband cheating- i think it's about both, or a marriage/relationship where both spouses are unhappy and hiding things from their spouse.

The first line and "save me from what I want" implies she's the one doing something wrong, and the 8th and 9th lines imply that her spouse is the one doing something wrong.

I think this song is about the events leading up to a fight, or the end of the relationship. The first line implies she's sneaking in the apartment, and wakes up her husband. The husband gets mad, but she knows that he's in the wrong, too.

Genius song.
