Winter Hill Lyrics
wherever you go
you will be with me
and when you do talk
you will be talking to me
but just save your words
as we walk on by
with the sky full of birds
and the dusk approaching
climb the long grassy track
to the top of winter hill
climb the real rocky rack to the top
ill see you back
ill see you back on winter hill
wherever you go
you will return safe
and when you will walk
you'll be walking with me
but if comes the day
you meet someone new
you will be with them
but I'll be thinking of you
climb the long grassy track
to the top of winter hill
stay with me see so far at the top
I'll see you back
I'll see you back on winter hill
well she travels far
so we stay apart
but she crossed her heart on winter hill
climb the long grassy track to the top
we can't turn back
climb the real rocky track
to the top of winter hill
see you back on winter hill
you will be with me
and when you do talk
you will be talking to me
but just save your words
as we walk on by
with the sky full of birds
and the dusk approaching
to the top of winter hill
climb the real rocky rack to the top
ill see you back
ill see you back on winter hill
you will return safe
and when you will walk
you'll be walking with me
but if comes the day
you meet someone new
you will be with them
but I'll be thinking of you
to the top of winter hill
stay with me see so far at the top
I'll see you back
I'll see you back on winter hill
so we stay apart
but she crossed her heart on winter hill
we can't turn back
climb the real rocky track
to the top of winter hill
see you back on winter hill

A dedication to a place, time and person I think. Perhaps a little ambiguous about the state of the relationship, it's definetely been written from the past tence but has a nice consideration for the future.
I think it's about a sweet, pure love that has been cherished by two people but something has seperated the protagonists, but the memory is not a bitter one but a faithful one.
Seems to be a song about wanting to meet a former lover at a place where they have enjoyed before. For peoples information Doves are from northern england. just outside bolton in the north in the pennines is winter hill where you can 'see so far at the top' on a clear day - you can see blackpool tower and the hills of snowdonia on the horizon after walking up a 'grassy track'. so its my guess hes enjoyed some treks up winter hill
Winter Hills an amazing place. I'm about 10 minutes drive away and even on the way up there the views are amazing. Definitely something to write about.
That little guitar effect is beautifully haunting...
