I think the drugs are a metaphor for religion generally, especially belief in the afterlife. Religion is the opiate (painkiller) of the masses.

This song is so beautiful. Definitely my favorite on the new album. Great stuff overall, I've been anticipating this album for like 2 years and it doesn't disappoint. I love this band.
It is about using drugs and experimentation to expand the mind but never letting that experimentation get to a level where it will control you.
This song is obviously about tripping, in this case probably acid. In fact, lots of Dredg stuff references psychedelics. I don't think religion even factors in here.
The first verse is convincing a skeptical person to just take the drugs, the second verse is about avoiding a social-situation bad trip. The key to psychedelics is remembering that your brain will lie to you as well as reveal incredible truths, this song sums that idea up.
And the reason that the second verse describes social anxiety so well is because having a social panic attack while tripping is an extreme temporary version of social anxiety.
This song may be a little tongue-in-cheek... perhaps about prescription drugs being pushed onto people. The message of the song seems fairly, almost too "direct", as if it is some sort of marketing pitch.

I think this song is about a spiritual experience someone in the band had on a drug.
Dredg can be very literal, yet powerful in most of their music, its obvious, well apparent what this song is about (As they admit). As a mid 20 year old who recently suffered a stroke that the doc's attributed to extensive psychedelic use (Although to be honest the ones that caused it were of the bad variety, Phenethylamine based (MD*A) not natural, Lysergic or Deemster based) and has had to find alternative means to rid me of my darkness, to rid me of my boredom I see two hidden meanings in this song. Of course this song is about the incredible things that can be shown through proper psychedelic guidance and experiences; About the unity, transcendence and collective nature that can be seen, felt, smelled and heard. That psychedelics, if not abused can reveal things right in front of you that you wouldn't normally be able to conceive of, if you let you self go, you can expand. On the other hand I believe that this song preaches the dangers of abusing psychedelics, that psych's will NEVER EVER lead you to the goal, never show you the light. They can show you a path, illuminate shadows, but they will never be luminous in and of themselves, never show you what your seeking. Discriminate, be careful, not all psychs are created equal, some are flat out bad for you mind body and soul; also you never know what your getting anyway unless your a chemist. Dredg has many songs about Psych use and I have no doubt that this song is NOT metaphorical of religion or social anxiety. Love Dredg with all my heart, but will say these states are equally accessible through proper meditative practice, and an open, subjective mindstate. Still an adamant proponent of Controlled responsible psych experimentation although I will never use again. See what you will, I sure do ;) One of the best shows I have ever seen was @ the Ogden in Denver, Co with Dredg opening for RX Bandits, WILD!
