The End of the Game Lyrics

The fox is done running
And the beast is at bay
He'd run them in circles
By the end of the day

They chased him through brambles
They chased him through the fields
They could chase it forever
But the fox would not heal

There was some sort of shadow
On the crest of a hill
And the hounds were distracted
Away from the kill

One day we'd reach a great ocean
The end of a pale afternoon
And we'd lay down our heads just like we were sleeping
Towed by the drag of the moon

We ran through the forest
And we ran through the trees
And we ran through the heather
Though we ran in our dreams

And you were my lover
And I was your beau
We ran like the river
For what else did we know?

One day we'd reach a great ocean
At the end of a pale afternoon
And the dogs are all worn out
And the horses are lame
All the hunters had hunted
At the end of the day

Our love was a river
A wild mountain stream
In a tumbling fury
On the edge of a dream

And they chased us through brambles
And they chased us through the fields
They could chase us forever
But the heart would not heal

When the fox is done running
At the end of the day
I'm ready to answer
I'm ready to pay

When this river's done running
And my time will come soon
Carried to the great ocean
By the drag of the moon

Not sure the game is over --- the baby sticks close to the hacienda while her brother travels far and wide and far and wide to places that have some crooning--oh don't go there! But the brother does and the baby says Dianas! To me! because you see he already snuck in and she's hooked to him so she (and her Dianas ...) do the Cupid arrow thing--in essence--not literally. No miracles of course because miracles never happen but tyranny is not the peach flambe for the crabby and thoughtless mountain king that it used to be and the money? It's the brother's. Always funny how some are so quick to say what someone else should do with their money. And the moral of this fairy tale is not don't fly off the handle when you're full of baloney but it was a nice memory of that joke. On the other hand it still don't beat "would I! would I!" What could? :)
