Firstly - excellent cover. I think it's more about the importance of faith rather than the futility of organised religion - at least in the killers version. The added "you'd better look alive" i think lends to this: maybe it is faith which helps us look alive in hard times. Great song.
"you'd better look alive" is in the bright eyes version, and it seems to be the dead warning the speaker to revel in life because there is nothing afterwards, and religion is a lie. you burn all religions, that is the truth. conor oberst is an ex-catholic, and this is why he has such a strong voice in his songs for modern atheism. thats also why its so ironic and unbecoming to hear flowers the hardcore conservative mormon destroy that notion by singing it in a techno song

The more I listen to this song, the more confused I become. This is an epic cover! The Killers should be proud. I don't think they have ever even performed this live! Why are people always ripping their amazing covers! They shouldn't take them back! They should cover tons of songs and make them better! They always do!
