Tricky Tricky Lyrics
Is six afraid of seven, ‘cause seven eight nine?
I’m about to lose it a second time
Staring at the wall, hour after hour
Running up and down, over and over
It’s so tricky tricky, this little one too,
Well, if it is a lunatic we’ll name it after you.
Put it in your pocket and pick it up
We’re here to entertain, show them what you got.
Six afraid of seven, ‘cause seven eight nine
I’m afraid of losing the places I find
If I was made equal, is this what I get:
A bunch of stories to interpret?
I’m ready to rocket like rock and roll
You are the flower in glittering gold
Sleeping in the palm, the palm of my hand
They show you who to follow, it looks like a man.
Is six afraid of seven, ‘cause seven eight nine?
I’m about to lose it a second time
Staring at the wall, hour after hour
Running up and down, over and over
I’m ready to rocket like rock and roll
You are the flower in glittering gold
Sleeping in the palm, the palm of my hand

i think this song is about 21st century gender roles.
"they show you what to follow, it looks like a man" she sees men in control of the world "sleeping in the palm, the palm of my hand" she sees the women in control of the men
"staring at the wall, hour after hour", "we're here to entertain, show them what you got", "stories to interpret" etc. shes feeling bleak about the complicated situation gender stereotypes of the modern age. she doesn't like the avenues she has to go down to get power in this world. i suppose the "tricky" part is dealing with the way you want to live and the parts of society you can't control.
Have you guys like never heard that joke before.

omfg, it's such a schizojam! The fucking soundtrack of my life =D I'm pathetic...But this song is the shiet! Oh gotta love the new slag, we eat shit and we LOVE it! I love this tune! And - vocals are fantastic.
I think it's: "Is six afraid of seven, 'cause seven ate nine?"
Makes more sense and it sounds like a fonetic wordplay "eight"/"ate"...
That would be the point - seven eight nine. sequential order, also mimicking a coherent sentence.

The vocals are Karin Dreijer Andersson, check out "The Knife" or "Fever Ray". This sounds very much like the style of The Knife.
It does, which is probably why they chose her voice and lyrical style for this song. Yet, it still has the smoothness and great instrumentation from Royksopp we expect. An amazingly beautiful union. Definitely one of my favorite songs.

ok song. what is it about? gender equality? strippers?
originally, i thought it was about gender equality, but it didn't seem quite right... Now that I reread it, I feel like it's about psychological stress, and also mocks those who try to help but do so in an ineffective, distant manner, and in general just about the struggle of losing your mind.

However, this is still from basic impressions only. I could put a lot more effort into interpreting and stuff, but I've gotten tired of worrying so much about what lyrics could possibly mean, I'm taking a break, I guess, haha. Kinda working out for me....

I could put a lot more effort into interpreting and stuff, but I've gotten tired of worrying so much about what lyrics could possibly mean, I'm taking a break, I guess, haha. Kinda working out for me. Sometimes first impressions of lyrics are the best... and letting my mind relax and wander is making it a lot more enjoyable listening to music, especially to such emotional and abstract pieces as Karin Andersson's works.
Royksopp and Karin are the flowers in glittering gold for making this wonderfully tricky song : )
I think it's about preparing for a journey using a portable GPS devise. In the following, I image the narrator, in this case the singer, talking about how crazy she feels plotting out her course.
Is six afraid of seven, cause seven eight nine? Im about to lose it a second time Staring at the wall, hour after hour Running up and down, over and over
-This just sounds like general 'I'm feeling crazy' stuff.
Now that she's prepared, she gets into how she feels using the thing, which also drives her a little crazy: Its so tricky tricky, this little one too, Well, if it is a lunatic well name it after you. Put it in your pocket and pick it up Were here to entertain, show them what you got.
-I image the 'were here to entertain, show them what you got, may have something to do with the extra features in these GPS devises.
Six afraid of seven, cause seven eight nine Im afraid of losing the places I find If I was made equal, is this what I get: A bunch of stories to interpret?
-Losing the places I fine: erasing the memory, or forgetting how to find saved routs, or afraid they were not saved correctly? -Last two lines: Having difficulty reading the instructions and understanding them?
The rest of the song pretty much follows the same thought process. 'Sleeping in the palm of my hand', the devise on sleep mode.
"You are the flower in glittering gold", despite how crazy it makes her it's still a great devise and she is glad to use.
21st century schizo maaaaaan...
