Nitrogen Pink Lyrics
Nitrogen Pink
And a whole load of Wednesdays
They're these sweet rotting memories
That keep you alive
Nitrogen Pink
Please, throw me a moment
Just to get my composure
And to stamp on a fly
And the boys had their pearls
And the girls had tobacco
And everybody was laughing
And she's singing?
Isn't it, isn't it, isn't it
Such a funny old world
The way tragedy strikes?
Nitrogen Pink
And a whole load of Wednesdays
They're these sweet rotting memories
That keep you alive
Nitrogen Pink
Please, throw me a moment
Just to get my composure
And to stamp on a fly
And the blind man was seeing
Clouds all grey until
The weatherman blew his rain away
And nobody, nobody, nobody
Make a sound
Nitrogen Pink
And a pill for my breakfast
And a bag full of ketchup
That he spilt on his tie
Nitrogen Pink
For the unwritten Bible
That is magnet on survival
Tell me, kick it up in the flames
And all the education, Daddy
It never paid because
The fact man, he took my own sense away
And I thought, and I thought, and I thought
You said these streets were paved with gold
Nitrogen Pink
For the real captain ...
For the unlikely pianist
The sigh and the game
Nitrogen Pink
For the man in the court
For the ...
The sweet melody
Life's not what it seems
Got so rich and we lost it
Found the hole in my pocket
Crack a smile when were game
That long drive home
Nothing much ever after
Nothing hurts more than love
And I wish you could be here
Nitrogen Pink
And a whole load of Wednesdays
They're these sweet rotting memories
That keep you alive
Nitrogen Pink
Please, throw me a moment
Just to get my composure
And to wave you goodbye
And a whole load of Wednesdays
They're these sweet rotting memories
That keep you alive
Please, throw me a moment
Just to get my composure
And to stamp on a fly

so, anyone have any suggestions as to what "nitrogen pink" actually is?
My best guess? Code for someone she knew with the initials "N.P." Just the first thing that came to mind, though.

On the whole, this song's pretty cryptic. One thing I can say for sure, though, is that it is overwhelmingly sad.

Hauntingly beautiful... It seems like a pensive homage to a past relationship/person.

I heard this song shorty after I experienced a death so I really related to this. Alot of lines in here remind me of what you think after you experience someone in your life close to you dieing for instance:
"they're these sweet rotting memories that keep you alive"
"throw me a moment just to get my composure and to stamp on a fly"
"and everybody was laughing at you singing 'isn't it, isn't it, isn't it such a funny old world the way tragedy strikes?'" I think this part is about how after someone passes away it the people that didnt know that person go back to they're lives like everything's normal while your still affected.
"that long drive home nothing much ever after nothing hurts more than laughter man, i wish you could be here" This is one of the strongest indications for me of what this song is about..- I can't even begin to explain why these particular lines are relevant.
The way this song is layed out also is a big big pointer..It starts out slow and then it gets fast and beautifully overwhelming..(of course in real life you subtract the beautiful part)
But yeah thats what I think..
It's said that Polly wrote this song about a friend of her friend who was dying of cancer. I think the nitrogen has something to do with how they use different forms of nitrogen in chemotherapy, though I have no clue if the nitrogen mustards are pink or what the color has to do with it.
