Black Heart Inertia Lyrics
Walking alone tonight
‘Cause I’ve only got room for two
Me and my burdened black heart
It’s all we know how to do
Yet I look for a bigger bang
Than the kind I continually see
Sick of all this inertia ow
Won’t you mend me?
Lover, can you help me?
I’m a child lost in the woods
A black heart pollutes me
And I think
You’re a mountain that I’d like to climb
Not to conquer, but to share in the view
Pulled by a false inertia
Pushed out by circumstance
Pistol firing at my feet
That’s coercing me to dance
Yet I look for a bigger bang
Than the kind I’m sorry to know.
Here I am, first foot of the climb
Watch me go.
Lover, can you help me?
I’m a child lost in the woods
A lit path eludes me
And I think
You’re a mountain that I’d like to climb
Not to conquer, but to share in the view
You’re a bonfire and I’m gathered ’round you
Set this old black heart inertia aflame
Send it away (repeat)
-- guitar --
You’re a mountain
That I’d like to climb
Not to conquer, but to share in the view
You’re a bonfire
And I’m gathered ’round you
Set this old black heart inertia aflame
Set it aflame, send it away
‘Cause I’ve only got room for two
Me and my burdened black heart
It’s all we know how to do
Than the kind I continually see
Sick of all this inertia ow
Won’t you mend me?
I’m a child lost in the woods
A black heart pollutes me
And I think
Not to conquer, but to share in the view
Pushed out by circumstance
Pistol firing at my feet
That’s coercing me to dance
Than the kind I’m sorry to know.
Here I am, first foot of the climb
Watch me go.
I’m a child lost in the woods
A lit path eludes me
And I think
Not to conquer, but to share in the view
You’re a bonfire and I’m gathered ’round you
Set this old black heart inertia aflame
That I’d like to climb
Not to conquer, but to share in the view
You’re a bonfire
And I’m gathered ’round you
Set this old black heart inertia aflame

"You’re a mountain that I’d like to climb Not to conquer, but to share in the view"
Such an awesome lyric. It's so true for people in relationships - it's not a competition, what matters is that you're both together, able to see the joys and greatness of life as one.
I agree with you 100% !! :)
I agree with you 100% !! :)
One of my favorites. The lyrics are just really beautiful and well thought out. I think they key here is the word "inertia", or, as the always reliable cough wikipedia defines it, "the resistance of mass, i.e. any physical object, to a change in its state of motion."
Skeptical of love, the singer needs someone to come along and change his views. He wants change, but his heart is resistant to it. "Lover, can you help me?" is a plea for this change.
And about the mountain line, I think it's about finding a meaningful love that's above just "conquering" someone physically, but finding someone to be able to share the joys of life.
Somehow, I relate this song to Anna Molly. He knows the one for him is out there, and he's calling out to her.
only just heard this song an it is amazing! Reminds me of the stuff from "a crow left of the murder" BOSS!!
where's the rest? by the way, it's a breath-taking song. i'm so glad to hear from them. it's been too long!!
just downloaded the song today...incubus is one of those few bands i would prefer to support by actually buying their music instead of stealing it, butttt what can i say i'm a sucker for temptation. The lyrics should be pretty dead on. this song is great its got the melody of Light Grenades, mixed with the piercing guitar of A Crow... and the musical sea-breeze of Morning View. if that makes sense...

I heard this song on the radio the other day and to be honest I didn't really like it. But since its Incubus, I had to give it another chance when I got home and I'm glad I did.
From the lyrics, it sounds like Brandon is a bit Jaded from the usual dating scene and hoping someone comes along that will make him want to willingly change his perspective on things.
I get it, this song pretty much hits home with the average person that's been single for awhile.
Pulled by a false inertia Pushed out by circumstance Pistol firing at my feet That’s coercing me to dance
Those lines really stuck out for me, I'm really not a fan of dancing, but you have to play the game and go along with it sometimes. Awesome lyrics.
Less greatest hits and more new songs guys!
i first heard it and i wasn't sure about it, but once i listened to the lyrics and the song over again i fell in love with it. yet another awesome song from incubus.
i think it's about desiring a consummate kind of love.
"Walking alone tonight ‘Cause I’ve only got room for two Me and my burdened black heart It’s all we know how to do"
pretty much the first verse tells of being alone
"Yet I look for a bigger bang Than the kind I continually see"
"Yet I look for a bigger bang Than the kind I’m sorry to know."
i like how he used the word bang. i guess it's talking about...how should i put it...a shallow kind of love. and he uses a contrast between conquering and sharing in the view.
"Pulled by a false inertia Pushed out by circumstance Pistol firing at my feet That’s coercing me to dance"
i believe this verse basically explains that circumstances hinder him from actually attaining the consummate love. i also like the imagery of the pistol and being forced to just go with it.
pretty much the rest of the song tells of his desire and his actual intent in attaining it of course with the help of the 'lover.'
"Here I am, first foot of the climb Watch me go."
Well done... I think you said it the best... dang, now i wanna listen to the song again..

This song is straight up awesome, the chorus is so beastly, love its message.
Does anyone else think this sounds like "Agoraphobia" off A Crow Left Of The Murder? Or is that just me
