Beautiful song about the passion going out of a relationship. I don't know what "I realized that alone never goes" means. I wish I did, but it doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
I'd say it means that she was alone the whole time, she just forgot about it for a while. 'Alone never goes' suggests to me that no matter what she does and who she's with, she will still feel alone. Totally agree about it being a wonderful song, these guys are criminally under-appreciated.
