Family Romance Lyrics
There's every good reason
To let down your hair
It's nobody's business
And nobody cares
I would know
I would know
Ask our neighbors
I would know
In spite of the weather
We can have a good time
We can go out for dinner
You can make up your mind
But you don't have to close your eyes
The way you used to do
Every time you change your look
You feel like someone new
So put on your makeup
And get the car
It take such a long (long) time
To drive that far
I would know
I would know
Ask our neighbors
I would know
Ask our neighbors
I would know
Ask our neighbors
Ask our neighbors
Ask our neighbors
I would know
Ask our neighbors
Ask our neighbors
Ask our neighbors
I would know
Ask our neighbors
Ask our neighbors
Ask our neighbors
I would know
To let down your hair
It's nobody's business
And nobody cares
I would know
I would know
Ask our neighbors
I would know
We can have a good time
We can go out for dinner
You can make up your mind
But you don't have to close your eyes
The way you used to do
Every time you change your look
You feel like someone new
So put on your makeup
And get the car
It take such a long (long) time
To drive that far
I would know
Ask our neighbors
I would know
Ask our neighbors
I would know
Ask our neighbors
Ask our neighbors
I would know
Ask our neighbors
Ask our neighbors
I would know
Ask our neighbors
Ask our neighbors
I would know

it seems like this song is about trying to be happy by changing the way you look.
He says "ask our neighbors, I would know..." over and over, meaning that he knows about how other people view him.
ya?
I feel like this song might be about a relationship between someone and their own family member, hence the title: Family Romance.
"There's every good reason / To let down your hair / It's nobody's business / And nobody cares." I think this is the singer talking to his relative, trying to convince her to partake in sexual interactions with him.
"Ask our neighbors," makes me think that maybe even the neighbors have heard them and/or seen them have sexual relations with each other. "I would know," sounds kind of like he knows that the neighbors know about their relationship, maybe because he's heard them talk about it and spread rumors?
"In spite of the weather / We can have a good time." I feel like this insinuates that the two are stuck at home together a lot, but despite that they can still 'have fun together' -- as in having deeper relations with each other.
"...You don't have to close your eyes / The way you used to do," makes me believe that at one point before, she knew it was wrong. Maybe she still does, but she's not as worried anymore? Just thoughts, I don't know.
Anyways that's just my interpretation. I really would like to know what this song is actually about. I really dig it. It's a chill tune.
