Letdown Lyrics
I got those lovesick blues
And I feel it more than ever
A sinking in my chest like a
Ship in the blue
She was a drug I abused
Well, I feel a rising fever
A shaking in my sleep left me
Broken and bruised
She said, "You're just a letdown
Another one of my mistakes
I never loved you anyway
I never did, and I never will"
She said, "You're just a letdown
All your friends, they feel the same
I never loved you anyway
I never did, and I never will
I got those lovesick blues
'Cause I sold my soul to the devil
She was well-dressed and she
Knew what to do
I'm painted crimson and blue
She was a ruthless artist
Traded my skin for cheap
Sex and tattoos
She said, "You're just a letdown
Another one of my mistakes
I never loved you anyway
I never did, and I never will"
She said, "You're just a letdown
All your friends, they feel the same
I never loved you anyway
I never did and I
Well, I never will
I never will"
She sealed my fate
With her conniving sugar kissin'
I took the bait
She told me I didn't know what I was missing
She told me I didn't know what I was missing
She said, "You're just a letdown
Another one of my mistakes
I never loved you anyway
I never did, and I never will"
She said, "You're just a letdown
I finally found the nerve to say
I never loved you anyway
I never did and I
Well, I never will
I never will"
She sealed my fate
With her conniving sugar kissin'
I took the bait

Dan said in an interview it is about being in a relationship, being dumped by them, but then seeing she was no good anyway, after being dumped.
Here are my two cents:
I've been in this situation before. What I hear in this song is melancholy and bitterness. To me the first verse simply sets the stage: he's heartbroken. He misses the girl the way an addict misses their drug of choice. If the song were a movie, the chorus would be a flashback, taking the listeners back to the exact moment the knife went in. The second verse basically tells us why he's wallowing in self-pity and proclaiming himself a letdown: he cheated. He sold his soul to the devil, a pretty girl who had all the right moves. When he refers to his "skin", he's refering to the girl who he cheated on, the one he actually loved. She's his skin becuse she's his comfort zone, as well as an essential part of him. He traded that skin for "cheap sex and tattoos", referring to the girl who seduced him. This also takes us to the bridge, where the new girl "sealed his fate" with "sugar kissin". It sort of hints at what the other woman said to get him into her bed.
The fact that he cheated explains the chorus. He feels so guilty and realizes he made a mistake, and pretty much agrees with everything his girl said to him when they broke up (in the chorus). Basically the song is him lamenting a big mistake that he made, as well as declaring himself worthless for having done what he did.
I've been in this exact situation before, too. He cheated on me with the girl he thought he loved, because she appealed to him at that moment. And then he tried everything to get me back, and from what I've heard, is completely heartbroken.

This will be the most popular off the new CD, and it is good but not my personal favorite. I think it is about something growing up over a crappy relationship and finally getting the nerve to tell the person off. To be honest this whole CD is leaving me perplexed.
I especially love this line, "She was a drug I abused". I don't know why, but it just sounds really poetic and I love it. XD
It's pretty obvious that it's about a girl he was dating and how he fell for all the crap she put him through, and then after he realizes what a waste of time she was.
Loveee this song. <3
i cant stop listening to this song, love it!
I think the last part of the song is actually
She sealed my fate with her tonight when she kissed him I took the bait, she told me I didn't know what I was missing
this makes me want to cry! so sad! :`(
This song gets to me so much, and I have no clue why. I was close to tears today listening to it, even though I've heard millions of times before. Amazing song though, I've been through similar situations, probably why I love it so much.
