Amber Rain Lyrics

Amber rain is beautiful but wrong
Caught between weak and being strong
It seems these days the weaker ones survive
What an awful way to find out you're alive

A dull warm red water falls
Flowing down to the sea
Where deeper darker waters wait for me

I don't expect I'll ever understand
How life just trickled through my hand

The subject of this song is cutting yourself, or possibly suicide. "Amber rain" refers to the dripping of blood. Considering it's an amber color, maybe the blood drops are watered down like in a shower or while rinsing off the cuts. "caught between the weak and the strong" is about the struggle to not hurt yourself, versus the obsessive need to do so. "where deeper darker waters wait for me" this could mean either death, or that darker place where you lose control and cut too deeply. "I don't expect I'll ever understand how life just trickled through my hand" The incessant ritual makes as much sense to the cutter as it does to everyone else, which means it makes no sense at all.

@HerNameIsAlive interesting.

Thinking of the most popular Amber colored liquid (Beer), this could be about alcohol dependence.

"Caught between weak and being strong"

The addiction makes you weak but alcohol frequently creates the self delusion of strength: In the sense of confidence or a guy who gets into drunken bar brawls. The deeper darker waters could be sinking deeper into dependence.

Life trickling through your hands: Time vanishes when your a drunk.

I don't quite know what to make of the dull warm red water, I assume blood. I'm not sure how that would play into the drunkard's lament theory.
