Sold! To the Nice Rich Man Lyrics
Rich man came to our town
And wandered around, wandered around
Rich man came to change our minds
And change our plans, take our things, take our nights
Tonight we fight
Rich man bought our wondering world
Our wonderful world, our wondering world
Rich man bought our wondering world
Our wonderful world, our wondering world
Get your guns, let's shoot him down
Let's axe his plans, we miss the mark
There goes the ark, here comes the dark
Rich man spoke, thunder clapped
Like a waterfall as those letters fall
On those know-it-alls and their mighty cousins
Rich man bought our wondering world
Our wonderful world, our wondering world
Rich man bought our wondering world
Our wonderful world, our wondering world
Rich man came to pay the price
He paid it all, he paid the now
He paid the royalty, he paid it in full
He paid it for fools who wandered and drooled
Full of life, he's twice as nice
Rich man bought our wondering world
Our wonderful world, our wondering world
Rich man bought our wondering world
Our wonderful world, our wondering world
Rich man bought our wondering world
Our wonderful world, our wondering world
Rich man bought our wondering world
Our wonderful world, our wondering world
And wandered around, wandered around
Rich man came to change our minds
And change our plans, take our things, take our nights
Tonight we fight
Our wonderful world, our wondering world
Rich man bought our wondering world
Our wonderful world, our wondering world
Let's axe his plans, we miss the mark
There goes the ark, here comes the dark
Rich man spoke, thunder clapped
Like a waterfall as those letters fall
On those know-it-alls and their mighty cousins
Our wonderful world, our wondering world
Rich man bought our wondering world
Our wonderful world, our wondering world
He paid it all, he paid the now
He paid the royalty, he paid it in full
He paid it for fools who wandered and drooled
Full of life, he's twice as nice
Our wonderful world, our wondering world
Rich man bought our wondering world
Our wonderful world, our wondering world
Our wonderful world, our wondering world
Rich man bought our wondering world
Our wonderful world, our wondering world

I think the rich man is supposed to be God, and the second rich man is Jesus. And him buying the world is him coming in to announce his existence and the existence of the heavens and his plans for us (10 Commandments and all), and of course we run afoul of those Old Testament style plans because we're human and not perfect; we disobey, and so there goes the ark, here comes the dark... And then the one who comes and is full of life and twice as nice is New Testament God and Jesus who pays the price and all that self loathing and guilt type stuff we do. And since the price is paid, we should no longer worry and just be chill. I think the song is an interesting way to look at God and christianity. Like God doesn't have to even be here in this part of the universe, but the fact that he is here must mean something.
In this song, God is a symbolic idea, a stand-in for the actual rich and powerful who some deeply believe we must adore.
No, the rich man here is recognized as good because of his actions, not his power.
"Rich man came to pay the price He paid it all, he paid the now He paid the royalty, he paid it in full He paid it for fools who wandered and drooled Full of life, he's twice as nice"
There is no worship of power here, only goodness.
Oops, that was supposed to be in reply to tom0063.
This is a truly evil song.
It basically urges us to see be humble before the rich and powerful, to worship them. It equates wealth and power with goodness, as primitives so often do.
It promotes the idea of the worthlessness of ordinary people in comparison to the rich and powerful.
How sad and how very, very false.
