When I speak with Cora
Sometimes she seems like an angry one
Saying things that I'd be scared to say
And she tells her [?] all the feelings that I see
Is a mirror reflecting me
When I speak with Cora
She stands up for herself
She says, "Can you hear me?
Are you listening to me? I'm not done."
When I say something hurtful
She always lets me know
That it's my pain for me to show
She seems to burn with a thousand years
Of women's battle, anger, and tears
And when I find her hardest to take(?)
Right there in the middle, she says,
"Strange. You are the pain and anger. I respect you.
But through it, I don't respect you,
But I like you
But through it, I don't like you,
But I love you"
And I love you, too.
And the scream of her love, I can't deny
When I see the little kids cling to the side
And I'm silenced by the ages in her eyes
And melted by the sweetness in her smile
And the wisdom that she holds up I can't deny
And the laughter that she knows I can't deny
And the garbage pick she brings the kids at night
And the melody she sings I can't deny
And with all of these things, I can't deny
