Could you please stop double posting the lyrics to Dan's songs? Congratulations, you bought the CD and have the lyric booklet - the only problem is that you're posting the exact lyrics even after someone has already done so. Look at the lyrics the person has already submitted - it has zero mistakes, and is IDENTICAL to what you've posted. What is the point in that? The only time to post from the booklet is when people have gotten the song's lyrics WRONG. Sorry to be so blunt, but it's very annoying.

I think Dan is talking about choices he made in life in relationships and how he fucked them up.

It's written in first person from someone who is homeless. Someone who is to depressed to function in regular society (vast majority of the homeless suffer from mental illness) because they can't forgive themselves for something terrible they have done... They've broken their own heart, and it's in disrepair. They've given up.
