This song is f'ing BAD ASS....first listen thru the disc and ur screaming "betray your prophets" all night...good stuff....this and broken hands easily best on album...my opinion of course...

I have a tough time with their lyrics, but I absolutely, hands down, think these are the most epic lyrics on the album, and in truth, the most epic lyrics I've EVER heard. So fucking unbelievably nasty. Fucking ridiculously sick.

If I had to take a stab at what it's about, I'd sound like an idiot, so I'm not going to bother.

I just got out of my World Lit class, in which we just read the Odyssey. The siren song was said to kill anyone who heard.
(From Wikipedia) "Odysseus was curious as to what the Sirens sounded like, so, on Circe's advice, he had all his sailors plug their ears with beeswax and tie him to the mast. He ordered his men to leave him tied to the mast, no matter how much he would beg. When he heard the beautiful song, he ordered the sailors to untie him but they stuck to their orders (or they couldn't hear him). When they had passed out of earshot, Odysseus demonstrated with his frowns to be released "

The prophets warned against listning to the songs, therefore, odysseus "betrayed his prophets"

This song to me kinda means you can do what you want if you so choose to go against those who hold power over you.

to me it means that you can go through hell and back, do everything for your god but if you dont mean it, it doesnt mean shit. i normally like to type a portion of the lyrics and interpret them individually, but with my statement to what the song means and what the layrics are, i think it pretty self explanitory

"tremble before hells gates" i believe is a metaphor for being scared while going into battle "watch as the heavens fall" is also a metaphor, but it means your side actually fighting the battle. (i am pretty sure the word "cite" should be "sleight"). the next line refers to killing people on the opposite side. and the last line of the stanza doesnt say "sirens" it says "tyrants", and it means that you submit to your leader out of fear and kill people.

And you may reach every golden shore Witness, repent, and ? And you may dance in the sands of the war You may sleep in the cradle of Eden

"reach every golden shore" is another metaphor saying you can conquer the world. the next 2 lines (the first one is the one that was toughest for me to interpret) means the leader will see soldiers sorry for killing so many people for what seems to be for nothing (that was an extremely rough interpret. so feel free to correct me) or you can play war as if its a game. the line means how you will sleep peaceably when discharged.

the first part of the chorus means how the leaders will betray the mercy of what our nation used to be. the next half says how this nation will prey on the weak(which is what those lyrics should say)

the first half of this verse says how you may have victory over the strongest army despite the empty greed you bathe in. the next 2 lines say how you can confess and repent.
